Probably just paying him in donuts.....
I know I don't live in NY anymore, but I think I've got a pretty good feel on what the state of mind is for Jets fans on this issue....and panic is definitely not the word I would use to describe it....in fact, for most the appropriate word is probably indifference.
This just stinks of PK playing sides....I'll talk about a panic then I'll talk about the Jets being absurd and unfair in their negotiations just to see if I can stir this up a little for my buddy Jimmy.

The same fucking idiots who are ridiculing Maccagnan for not giving Fitz franchise QB money are the same people who would berate the shit out of him if he did give into those demands and then Fitz regresses back into the Fitzpatrick of old (or week 17)...which is ENTIRELY possible. Hell, even probable.
And I've yet to see a report of ONE SINGLE TEAM who is willing to give him anything close to $12+ million per.
So the Jets should give it to him...just because?
Fucking dildos

The amount of agent-created noise out there in the media re: Fitz is just ridiculous.
PFT has a piece today about the Jets "risking" Fitz signing elsewhere without giving the Jets a chance to counter, because he is so insulted by their offer.
Yeah, sure...he has to actually get a bigger offer elsewhere first. Pretty sure we'd have heard about it by now if someone was offering way more than the Jets.
Macc is treating all the chat with all due respect...by ignoring it completely. The desperation on Fitz's agent's part is pretty obvious to everyone - except, apparently, the media who keep regurgitating all of this crap.

Free market dummy. His price is more than fair when IT'S THE ONLY OFFER. Why would be bid against ourselves? What a dope he is.

Once everyone has turned him down, we'll sign him at a reasonable price.

The logic that if one GM gives out a bad deal they all should just to be fair is asinine. Besides there is a huge difference between the potential of Osweiler and the absence of potential with Fitz.

Its the salary cap era. The only "fair" is that the market bears, and right now, he has one offer apparently, for ~7 mm. Paying a guy 5 mm more just to be nice is a recipe for screwing up your cap. Brock O got that money based in part on youth and potential. Fitzmagic is a different situation - we know what he is. There's probably many other "backups" making more than starters at certain positions around the league. Just because Fitz is a starting QB, for now, doesnt mean theres some magical minimum you have to pay him. He'll either take what the Jets offer, or get a better offer, or sit out. Right now, #2 hasnt materialized. #3 is career suicide and no way to get nearly the money he could get with option #1. So yeah, its not panic time.

Fucking dildos oh, i don't know. i don't see fitz regressing at this pint. he wasn't doing badly in houston until he broke his leg and he had a couple of good seasons in buffalo until gailey got bounced. he's got some good tools to work with on the jets. as for the 7 mill offer, i tend to agree with peter king. 7 mill is way too low. fitz will be coming in as the starter and he should get starter's pay. not 18 mill like osweiler or higher but something closer to 10 mill.

If Fitz is convinced he's a franchise QB and that last year is who he really is....and not the player he was with his other 4 or 5 teams, then sign a deal for $8M + incentives per year. Make the incentives a combination of individual and team milestones (passing yards, offensive TDs, wins, playoff appearance). Heck, have the deal top out at $18M like Osweiler if the Jets win the fricken Super Bowl (don't worry, Woody...you'll never have to pay that unfortunately).
Enough of this, "I"m worth this much"....."Oh no you're not" shit. Lock Fitz in or move on.

I would love for the Jets to decide to go with RGIII if only to see what Fitz ultimately signs with for whatever team takes him (as a backup). $4m? Maybe $5m?
Of course then we'd be choosing between RGIII, Geno and Bryce Petty as our QB and me no likey that so much. But purely as an academic exercise, sure, I'm in.

Exactly
Why some of these dumbasses in the media can't seem to grasp this, I haven't the foggiest.

Exactly Why some of these dumbasses in the media can't seem to grasp this, I haven't the foggiest. Let's just hope the situation remains amicable. I'm confident the Jets have simply held a line here on $ and not demeaned the player. Their position simply has to be, "We love you, we want you back, you'll be our starter. This is the best place for you to succeed and we believe we're offering you the most money, but we have an allocation of $ by position and our offer is competitive, heck, it's the biggest offer on the table. We'll be patient because we want you back, but we can't wait forever."
