On this date in 1993, the Jets acquired QB and Long Island native Boomer Esiason from the Cincinnati Bengals. In exchange for Esiason, the Jets sent their 3rd round pick in the upcoming draft to Cincy. With the pick, the Bengals selected linebacker Steve Tovar from Ohio State. Boomer played three seasons for the Jets. He had a decent season in 1993, but disappointed in 94 & 95.  I had the opportunity to meet Boomer several years ago, and when I asked him about his time as a Jet, he just shook his head and said he tries not to think about those years too much. |

boomer has cosistently overrated himself. he was nothing but a complaining blowhard. yeah he had some talent but it was largely gone when that moron coslet got him "because nobody else knew more about his offense" than boomer. maybe if dick steinberg lived things would've turned out much different.

Will never forget when the Jets announced the acquisition of Boomer and he held up his shiny new #7 Jets jersey, for all the media to see. All while #7 Ken O'Brien was still on the roster. What kind of classless organization does that? The Jets, that's who. O'Brien wound up starting 4 games for the Eagles that season and lost all of them. His final NFL season at the age of 32.

I remember Boomer somehow hurt his neck in warmups, and couldn't play. The TV or radio announcer was like 'WTF? You don't throw with your neck'

Scary part is that if Macc doesn't draft well, the next couple of years could be as bad or even worse than the mid-90s, and Boomer and ODonnell could both be better than anything we currently have under center. |
