What am I missing about the quote "Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did"? Lying about what? That they were leveraging their illegality? And?

What am I missing about the quote "Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did"? Lying about what? That they were leveraging their illegality? And? I think it is supposed to mean that they were lying about the "dangers" of drugs, which based on the overall culture at the time of the supposed lie, is a laughable proposition. |
