April 9, 2008The Jets extended the contract of FS Kerry Rhodes, making him among the highest paid safeties in the league. The extension was reportedly a 5-year $33 million deal with $20 million in guarantees. Kerry had been a 4th round pick out of Louisville in the 2005 NFL draft and immediately became a starter in the Jets secondary, starting all 16 games in his rookie season. He is one of 5 Jets to be drafted out of Louisville, including 3 that are currently on the roster (Powell, Pryor & Mauldin). The other Louisville draftee, QB Browning Nagle in 1991. He would not play out his contract with the Jets. He was traded after the 2009 season to Arizona for a 4th round pick in 2010 (Eric Norwood) and a 7th rounder (Greg McElroy) in 2011. The Jets traded the 4th round pick in 2010 to Carolina to move up in the draft to select Joe McKnight.
