Personally I think he is better than the other 2 but he gets no press as a 3rd party (Libertarian) candidate. Anyone think he has a shot to get to the debates and at least speak his mind?
Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson and his running mate Bill Weld have just released a masterful ad that touts their impressive records as two-term governors (of New Mexico and Massachusetts, respectively) while drawing sharp distinctions among their positions and those of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
This is hands down powerful, powerful stuff and highlights Johnson's interest in capturing what he calls the "broad middle" of Americans who are socially liberal, fiscally conservative, and desperate for "small, efficient government" that gets core tasks done without blowing up the budget to pad the payrolls of favored businesses, bomb and drone foreign countries into the Stone Age, and strangle us all in regulatory red tape.

If you're a Republican, a vote for Johnson is a vote for Hillary. If your'e a Democrat, a vote for Johnson is a vote for Trump.
He will never win but he will cost one of them the election.

What will it take for a third party candidate to be taken seriously then? Supposedly everyone has a problem with Trump and Clinton. Isn't this the chance that a 3rd party should be able to grab a hold of?

You're only as serious as your war chest and your infrastructure. Hillary's campaign in a lot of ways is the personification of modern Democratic ideologies with its bloated staff and budget getting little returns. She has nearly 10 times the staff and has raised 5 times the amount of money yet only leads by 2, 4 or 5 points in the polls. That is the type of government we will get with her. This is why even though I find myself angry with half the stuff Trump does I will still be casting my meaningless vote for him in NY: (from the New York Times)

BIG advantage. And she inherited Bill's infrastructure. The money Bernie raised is amazing but infrastructure is still the key. Im surprise how shitty Bush did.

Jeb Bush spent $2800 per vote in Iowa and $1150 per vote in New Hampshire. Let that sink in for a second. He finished 4th in Iowa and 11th in New Hampshire. Bernie did well but he was selling lies to pipe dreamers.

If he would have been eloquent, and said the following, while attacking Hillary on all of the crap that you've posted so far Trades, he would have won in a landslide: 1. Build the wall (lots of Americans support this, but he doesn't need to say Mexicans are rapists and that nonsense). 2. Put a hold on Mulsim Syrian refugees (instead of the dumb Muslim ban); go for safe zone in Syria 3. Pro choice 4. Re negotiate free trade agreements in favor of US manufacturing 5. Simplify the tax code 6. Lower taxes on Corporations/small businesses (to spur job growth), end the squirreling away of taxes in foreign countries, and raise taxes on the top 1%. 7. Fix Obamacare to get to a true universal healthcare system 8. Make NATO members pay more for their security; fix the way the military spends its budget ($100 hammers and such); go back to the Nixon strategy of playing one foreign adversary off another; make the Middle East countries fund and raise an army to fight ISIS. 9. Create a North America OPEC - 100% oil for the US comes from within, Mexico or Canada. I could go on and on here, as there are a ton of more issues, but if he didn't speak like a jackass and offend everyone while still being an outsider vs. a career politician, the silent majority would have crushed the extremes of both entrenched parties.

The election isn't over and there is a long way to go. Many of the candidates had a similar platform but they didn't get as far was Trump and they spent a lot of money doing it. I am willing to see it play out. Comes down to it though Gary Johnson's platform is basically what you outline and he isn't being heard. Common sense may say that respectful, thought filled and informative ideas on the way to run the country should win but that is not what the people want. Romney and McCain took the high road against Obama and the high road led to a loss. Neither of them really challenged him on his weaknesses and they lost because of it. You are saying that Trump should run a more traditional campaign but if had run a traditional campaign so far Cruz would be the nominee. It is easy to second guess Trump because he says some crazy stuff and that is what is replayed over and over and he gets notoriety from it.

I'm definitely not saying take the high road on Hillary... like I said, you listed a boat load of shit that she should be crucified for (for Christ sake's, she's under investigation by the FBI!). He should be basically appealing to Bernie voters who want to shake up the status quo, and saying she is an extension of Obama (which she is), and she SUCKED as Sec. of State... there's a reason why 60% of the electorate hates her.
But there's no reason to say a judge, in a case that is being litigated against you, is being unfair because his grandparents are Mexican. Even if that is true... why the F would you say that. Play smart.

And, none of the other Republicans had similar platforms as Trump.
On the big issues, NONE of those cowards were: 1. Pro choice 2. Build the wall 3. Against the trade imbalances 4. Attack the Washington establishment 5. Attack the rich.

Im extremely hopeful that he gets the required polling support to get into the debates. Even if hes not going to have a realistic shot, for the good of the country, we need more than two viewpoints out there.

To answer the original question, he has a shot to get into the debates
Right now he seems to be averaging 10% - anywhere from 7 to 12% depending on the poll.

And the Clinton Machine has her on track to be the President. Just what she wanted.

I just think its adorable how she takes money from the big banks, from the oil Arabs and from foreign nations yet claims to be a champion for the "little person", woman and gays. She's the real Teflon Don. Even more adorable was Pocahontas (which Im mad at Trump bc Ive been calling her that for years) supporting her. What a sellout that was. Wall Street wants Hillary in the White House. And then there is the 90% of blacks that are going to vote for her and the latinos and Asians. Amazing when you think about it. Gotta give the Dems credit, they have their constituencies trained.
