I want to talk about Hurd before talking about Hurd becomes a thing. I watched him as best I could last year and couldn't find a good reason not keep crushing on him. Reminds me of David Johnson in the unexpectedly elusive department. He's got wiggle and power.
Stay tuned. Don't think he has a hope in hell of leapfrogging Cook/Fournette but he's gonna be a name.

He's an intriguing prospect, no doubt, and he ran behind one of the worst lines in the SEC. I ended up watching quite a few of UT's games and like you mentioned he has some shiftiness and a great ability to break tackles. My problem with him is he is going to run slow....looks like a 4.6-4.7 type of guy in a draft that should be loaded with prospects that have tons of speed.

Indeed, he doesn't look like a back that;s going to wow you with his long speed -- but I wouldn't be shocked if he turned in mid to high 4.5s in Indy next feb... Myself, I don't think his running style relies too heavily on speed. It's not going to be a big deal for my judgement unless he clocked in something gross

never too early for a quick ranking?
1A) Cook (i know, but I stick with it) 1B) Fournette 2) Hurd 3) McCaffrey (not sure I buy him as a NFL 3 down back) 4) Perine 5) N. Chubb (gotta see him healthy again before ^) 6) K. Hunt 7) the return of James Conner?

I like that you have Cook 1A but even he has some question marks going into the season but at this point I could easily see him coming off the board first. Go figure, but I have no opinion on Fournette and have barely have seen him play, and this is coming from an SEC guy that likes LSU. The stars just didn't align when it came to my CFB viewing last season. I'm surprised you have Hurd that high, he's going to run slow. I love McCaffrey even with his smallish size. He is built for todays NFL and is going to be a monster mismatch all over the field. My darkhorse is Sony Michel from UGA although he just broke his arm last week which should hamper him early in the season. UGA has been doing a terrific job when it comes to recruits recently. In Michel I see a nice change of pace back, good size, and blazing speed. Would love to land someone of his ilk in the later rounds. I want the Jets too finally have some speed at the RB position and signing an aging Forte doesn't help. He's slow as molasses before he even takes a snap for us and is on the wrong side of 30 when RB's fall off the cliff. I'd be happy if we get one decent season from him. I'll bet you Hurd runs a 4.6+. If I'm right, you help run the mock draft......if I'm wrong I'll do it. Either way I win.....LOL.

Enough to know Fournette's a damn workhorse.... But I like the Dynamo that is Cook. His body control and ability to change direction and that type of stuff makes me gush. I like Hurds game in the NFL enough leapfrog McCaffrey who I'm not as confident about in the pros. I have to go back and rewatch some Stanford games but I never thought much of Christian behind the line. Once he wiggles past, sure. Hurd has NFL brusier material with added shiftiness to boot.

He must be going to a 1aa school so he doesn't have to sit out. I thought he was draft eligible after this season though?

He must be going to a 1aa school so he doesn't have to sit out. I thought he was draft eligible after this season though? He is a junior, so he is draft eligible. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Why not just come out now and let an NFL team decide if they want him to change position.

Does anyone know why he's even leaving Tennessee? I'm so out of the loop this year.

Does anyone know why he's even leaving Tennessee? I'm so out of the loop this year. He was losing touches to Alvin Kamara and supposedly he hates the Tennessee spread system. He wants to go play for a team that runs more I formation. What I don't get is why wait till now, he knew what system they were going to run this year. You want to play for an I formation team? Suck it up for the rest of this year and declare for the draft and get paid to play for your next team.

He's right in that knows he's own worth as a player. He'll be a much better pro, then a college 'back in that system... but man. Just strap up, and finish the season.

Hurd has some "maturity" issues that will keep his draft stock down. That Tennessee program is about to implode IMO, too many unrealistic expectations, the pressure has gotten to the whole team and especially Butch Jones.
