Not that Im volunteering NY bc I would hate the traffic but the IOC needs to do a better job picking the host countries/cities. Russia and Brazil have no business hosting the games. Seeing the condition these people live in and knowing what the country spent on these games is heartbreaking. The whole thing is one big scam. Definitely hearbreaking.

Only highlights so far: -Watching the women beach volleyballers' asses - granted, they have no boobs and are gangly... but some of them... -Seeing that woman's cyclist wipe out in real time (not funny but a "whoa!" moment).. the American collapsed though after taking the lead after that! Terrible! -Watching a little ping pong... what's funny, even when it was US vs. Portugal, both girls were Chinese. -The men's basketball is a joke. US will stomp. -Swimming I guess is somewhat exciting. -Archery is boring as shit, and so is fencing! -Some of the soccer games were good - Brazil... what a disaster. Can't even beat Iraq!? It's not even a country anymore! -Not into gymnastics.. like watching little girls in dwarves bodies (I don't mean midgets, I mean dwarves!)

Few thoughts from yesterday. Those rules about only 2 per country being able to advance in gymnastics are criminal. Gabby doesn't get to defend her title even though she is third best overall in qualifying. Cycling is dangerous (thankfully she will be OK) imgur.com/gallery/QDSY5urAnd the juxtaposition

There was an unconfirmed report that an Olympic kayaker overturned in practice when their kayak hit a sofa floating in the water.

This is for you Raoul DukeI was watching equestrian eventing cross country phase this morning (and by the way France did exceptionally well in the dressage phase, the previous day, some really beautiful riding from all 4 members of the team, which put them in the running for team first place) and two riders had completed the course so they had two scores in hand and only needed one rider out of two more to finish for a safe team score. The announcers were two British guys and as the third Frenchman (Mathieu LeMoine) starts out on XC, one says to the other "what do you think the french will do now, play it safe here?" and the other goes "pffffft have you ever seen a french sportsperson? and he goes in riding or anything, and the other guy says "Anything. He's going for it!" I did not know you guys had this reputation. So some little props for you there from Brits. They look to do very well tomorrow when the medals are awarded. USA is OUT already (two didn't complete the course) Usually the medals are dominated by England, Germany, Australia and NZ so props to them!

I'm glad to see some Olympians throwing shade at others that were previously banned for doping/cheating. I wish baseball players had done this, I still might be a fan.
