I didn't see anyone mention this, but this is the exact same scenario from last year -- we beat the Phins in the last game of the year, Geno looks really decent and we all think, "Hey, maybe he's starting to turn a corner!" And we see how well that worked out. Paper tigers indeed.

It's true, this organization celebrates mediocrity more than any other organization in sports history. Gatorade bath after finishing 4-12.

Game wasn't on in my area today, but did Rex pick up the Gatorade cooler and dump it on himself or something? The way some of you guys are bitching about the gatorade bath is just weird. When Andy Reid was getting fired in Philly, his whole family was on the sideline during the last game...hugging, displays of affection and appreciation, etc. Was that also a disgrace? Why can't Rex's team show their appreciation for him after perhaps his last game? Not sure why some of you guys not only need Rex to be fired, but also seem to need it to be done in a way that resembles a bitter divorce. Dude, the team just won its last game of the season to improve to a fucking shitty 4-12 record. Ain't no one on the team that deserves a Gatorade bath. gatorade baths are for winning important games. Not for beating another team that's out of the playoffs in the last game of the year. if the players wanted to show their appreciation, then they should have gotten him a gift certificate to Chili's.

The fuck he is. Rex Ryan, the king of beating Miami the week after Miami is eliminated from the playoffs. Rex's guys sure play hard when his job is on the line. When it's not, they are the most undisciplined team in the league. The funny part out of all of this is that they still had the same typical mental mistakes today. Burning a TO on defense, another one after that fake punt. Gave up two 90 yard drives which has been a problem with the defense all year long. Yep. If the Dolphins didn't suck ass, they'd have beat us handily.

Are you guys really that surprised over a Gatorade bath? This is the same coach that gets excited when he wins the Snoopy trophy. Sadly this is the highlight of the Jets season is the Snoopy Bowl.

I mean really
I know a lot of us including myself may sound like we're ganging up on Rex.
Fact is, we ALL (as in, the ENTIRE FUCKING FANBASE) absolutely adored the guy at one time. But that crap has passed and gone. LONG gone.
In retrospect, we were a bunch of fucking mo-mo's for keeping Rex after the exodus of Tanny. They both were the main culprits behind the Tebow fiasco and readily admitted it. That's what I've always found strange about everyone blaming Woody for that Sanchez/Tebow shit sandwich claiming that he was trying to "win the backpage headlines".
You mean to tell me that Rex, who as most of us have already agreed upon, has shoved this wildcat bullshit down 3 different OC's throats, had NOTHING to do with obtaining this fucking guy who had a 6'3 245 frame, national fame, and by most peoples accounts was better suited as a FB/H-Back and gimmicky, "special packages designed to his strengths" player?
Really? I mean, REALLY?

In the post game show on sny Custer said his inside source told him Woody was not pleased with Rex because he was a part of and agreed with ALL of the personnel moves of Tanny and Idzik and he somehow gets a free pass from many for being "forced" to coach a team with personnel deficiencies. It seems that Rex's desire to be popular extended to all of his dealings with the front office.
It is time for Woody to clean house. Everyone that has anything to do with pro personnel should be let go. Let the new gm rebuild the entire organization. The time for half measures is over.

Rex seems like a non-confrontational type of guy and that coincides with having the desire to be popular (as you mentioned). Good for Woody for finally waking up to this because this is a huge red-flag for any HC.

It's astounding to listen to the media defend him as if he's a poor victim to a "deteriorating" roster. All he needs is a better organization AROUND HIM, you see? That's the mark of a true great coach -- needing organizational excellence on every level. 1) Rex has admitted to making draft picks himself, such as Conner. 2) The whole Tebow fiasco, outlined by another poster in this thread. 3) We have conspicuously drafted defense in the 1st round ever since Rex Ryan arrived. 4) Rex has the opportunity to develop the roster with his coaching wisdom and motivation. He can't be absolved of blame if they don't develop; players don't come out of college ready to be Pro Bowlers, there is some coaching required. Given these four tenets, how can anybody view Rex as the victim? This is not even mentioning his in-game coaching deficiencies which are numerous. I almost get physically sick when I hear media buffoons gush and gaw over how he just needs a better opportunity. He has had an opportunity here for 6 years to develop a roster with an extremely high level of personnel input. This is the roster he has sown.

That says a lot. That says that Rex was looking to make friends instead of looking to be a Head Coach. We went from one extreme(Mangina) to the other(Rex). We need someone in-between.

As HC he's ultimately responsible for the team. Period. He has presided over a dismantling of the Jets offense. That is his legacy to the organization.
Any NFL team must rebuild every 3-4 years as players leave/age. He was incompetent at this critical task.
I'm glad to see the back of him.

People are making too much of the Gatorade bath. It wasn't because anyone was happy with 4-12, it was because they knew Rex was getting fired and they genuinely liked the guy and were happy that he'd go out with a win. It was absolutely time for a coaching change, but why suddenly hate the Earth that Rex walks on?
