Latest word is that supposedly it's 100 people, and as if that wasn't bad enough, they are telling people that "they don't have the money" to pay for severance, they are just giving you an end date of employment. Like wtf. We have that same 1-5 performance review scale. Must be an industry wide HR thing. When did HR start running the show? Fuck those guys, fuckin idiots the lot of em. Latest thing now instead of firing or lay off or severance is "your position has been eliminated". And then they hire someone to do your same job for less, but change their job title. Crafty, avoids a lot of legal bullshit with wrongful termination lawsuits, etc. It's definitely the industry standard to have the 1-5 scale. Except in our case, we take it one step further. I'm told at the beginning of the review process what number I need to meet on the performance reviews that I perform. For last year, it was a 3.2. The problem? I have a team of 14...and most are deserving of a number in excess of 4. With a couple deserving a 5. So, they all end up getting screwed. The one piece of good news. Raises are very minimal, so the difference between a 3 and a 5 is not much from a dollars and cents standpoint. With my company, you make your money on your yearly bonus. And while there is some fudging there as well, (I'm given a pool of money to divide), everyone usually comes out ok.

We lost a GREAT Product Manager due to BS games with "eliminations" yet somehow they hired a guy, to do the same thing, cheaper, and much worse, while my friend, who is older, struggles to find a job. Penny Wise Pound Foolish.

But seriously, my manager has shared with me that he has the same exact BS to deal with. We have a very good, very veteran team, probably close in size to yours, and most all would deserve a 4 plus, but they find ways to average a 3.x And like your company, the difference financially in the raise is minimal between a 3 and a 5. Its like the whole thing is just going through the motions to make sure you hit your KPOs and show on paper you did your reviews. On the bright side, we do have a bonus plan and other financial awards, so they do take care of us here and there, knowing the system is BS.

We are told straight up that getting a 5 is almost impossible. You get 5s, you're the next CEO
