You realize of course this isn't an indictment on kids, it's the generation who raised them. Exactly. My 7 year old plays soccer on Saturdays (insert gay joke). Last Saturday I show up to watch the last 30 minutes which is usually a scrimmage. I notice the 2 teams playing and 5 kids on the side. I thought they were going to rotate subs in so everyone could play. After 10-15 minutes I noticed that they hadn’t been subbed in..I didn’t care my kid was playing. I see 2 fathers on the side getting agitated cuz their kids weren’t playing so they call the coach out. It appears they weren’t subs they had been punished for goofing around during practice. You guessed it, the parents flipped, found the punishment to be abusive. Saying well if he’s not playing anymore I’ll take him home.…blabla.

I coach my 6 year old girl's soccer team (also on Saturdays) and I'm the furthest thing from a helicopter parent, but the coach of your kid's team shouldn't be coaching. They're kids. They're supposed to goof around. They should be learning how to kick a ball properly, not to use their hands, how to semi-accurately pass, and teamwork. Pep Guardiola needs to relax.

It's one thing not to play a kid because he stinks at that age.. that would be wrong, everyone should have a chance to have fun. But if these 2 fuckwads were horsing around in practice, then they shouldn't be there at all - go home and fuck around on your lawn with a soccer ball. Other kids are there to learn the game, even if they stink, not see these 2 bozos just run around practice and not pay attention. Parents should have been told that their kids were acting like fuckwads.

I dunno...I didn't see the incidents before that sparked the punishment but I'm not appalled by the idea that my 7 year old could be punished by the coach if he doesn't follow instructions.

I've pumped my brakes a bit without knowing what actually happened to cause the coach to sit them and/or if there were repeated warnings. If they were a total disruption, fucking up everything for everyone else, then fine. If they were just dicking around, making stupid noises and pushing each other for a few minutes, that's another story. I still stand by my "they're kids" comment. There has to be some level of expectation from the coach that 7 year old boys are dickheads and are going to screw around.

There has to be some level of expectation from the coach that 7 year old boys are dickheads and are going to screw around. I did a lot of youth sports coaching. They are never too young to learn to run laps for misbehavior. That being said if they distracted from practice they ran laps and most learned right away that certain behavior wasn't acceptable. I don't think I ever held anyone out from a scrimmage for behavior issues but some got in except running shape from all of their laps. At the end of one game one of my players took a full swing, didn't connect though, at s player from the other team as the game ended. He was by far my best player. All the kids shook hands and then I send my player on a few lap learning trot. His parent came over and started to complain and I told her what happened. They never questioned me again. I considered sending the mom for a lap too. She could have used it plus she raised the little brat.

Coached 8u soccer and 1 kid had a mouth worse than a sailor. I had him sit out a few minutes here and there to try to change the behaviour. Mom asked what was up and we had no problems until a few games later.
Middle of the game while my back is turned mom is out on the field dragging her 8 year old son off by the hair or ear (couldn't quite tell). I asked her what was up...she said "you may not have heard him but I did!"...she threw his ass in the car directly and went home. Never had another problem the rest of the season. Go mom!

What it all boils down to is that organized youth sports is the downfall of civilization.
