It is sad and scary how many people these guys are catching in their area. Imagine how many are out there that aren't getting caught everywhere in the world.
When my daughter was about 13 she came to me and told me that her friend was talking to some guy that claimed to be in his 20s and that she was going to go meet him at the mall that weekend. She said she understood that her friend could be mad at her and that her friend's safety was more important than their friendship which made me extremely proud as a father. I called the girls parents and they intervened by not letting her go to the mall, taking away her phone and grounding her for a long time. Personally I think they should have either called the cops or continues the conversation and met the guy at the mall themselves. This was about 12 years ago.
Either way, my point is, if you have kids or grandkids you need to be completely involved in their lives and monitor their online activity at all times.
