Still goes on. The pandemic combined with social media devastated a lot of brains. Also, having a drop-down with your academic level (RN-BSN) is about as douchey as it comes. As part of your title on documents, sure. And if you're a NP or some other advanced degree/special certification (CEN, CCRN, etc) I can see having that as part of your ID drop-down. But you have your Bachelor's? Lmao, FOH. Furthermore, if I lose a patient and it bothers me (you DO build up a callous, fortunately/unfortunately), I can usually only afford myself a minute or two to compose myself before having to attend to my other patients. I certainly don't' have time to create a TikTok, nor do I have that mindset to do so. I can't begin to verbalize how infuriating I find this. True narcissism, and that's coming from someone who is subscribes to the whole "enough about me, what do you think about my outfit" way of being, lol. This RN, and this mindset, is toxic to healthcare.

They should start sending these around with new titles. "Wendys was out of ketchup." "The snack machine was out of gum."

This RN, and this mindset, is toxic to healthcare. My hospital requires this for all clinical staff. RN, BSN, CEN, CRNA, PA. Staff do not have a choice. Not saying this is the case but it could be. I think the tik-tok crap is bullshit. I have had to pick my wife up at work on more than one occasion when she has lost a long-term ped.'s pt. Sickle cell/cystic fibrosis or cardiac. It never happened in the 15 years she spent as the charge RN in a Children's ED. They have had deaths, but you really have no interaction, most came in as a trauma already unconscious. While she is upset about the loss but it is more like a Mom than anything else.

Yea, I have to get my BSN soon, but right now I'm concentrating on CEN as it will actually help me (and by extension, my patients) in practice. Only cases that really bother me tend to be those who hit close to home; special needs individuals, especially expirations. Otherwise, I'm pretty adept at compartmentalizing. Which also means I tend to get the shittiest of cases, lol. I guess that's the advantage of working in the ER, I tend to not have to build relationships with patients as your wife has had to do. Small comfort.

Small comfort. My wife did this while in the ED as well. I cannot remember whether she felt it was worth it or not. If she wanted to remain a Charge nurse in the ED she had to have her CEN. She kind of aged out of the ED after 15 years of being in charge. Takes it's tool. The only part she really hated was the Peds Trauma ones that came in. Having to correct a Trauma surgeon about a med dose in the middle of a chaotic trauma made her want to vomit. Great career choice. I wish I had gone that route. Most of our VPs and AVP's started out as RNs and still proudly list it as their first credential in the list of alphabet soup following their names. My wife only ever wanted to do pt. care. At the bedside.
