On a related note, if I hear one more commentator/journalist claim that the Baby Jesus was a refugee or fleeing persecution, my fucking head is going to explode. Why do the non-religious elites consistently lay claim to Biblical knowledge beyond that of the people who actually practice their religion?

Baby Jesus was not a refugee. Jesus was born at the time of the First Census, which required all Jews to return to their anscestoral home to register. Jesus' father, Joseph, was of the House of David. The House of David was from Bethlehem. Jesus and Mary left Nazareth and headed to Bethlehem to register for the census. They were not fleeing King Herod. Heck, they didn't even know King Herod was searching for a newborn king. So, Jesus was NOT fleeing persecution, and he was NOT a refugee.
