Why on earth would anyone anywhere near the NY area want to waste time making home made pizza? Live in nebraska, ok, I get it. But in NY? Just about everything I do is home made. This way I can control the quality of ingredients as well as make it exactly the way my family/friends like it. None of this "ok" out of a fucking box/can/jar type of cooking. I have taught both my kid as well. Unfortunately the wife still is only good at reservation after 29 years of coupledom. I live 565 miles away from NY in the heart of NC but still did my own back when we lived on that fucking Island.

We have the best pizza in the US here so why make it in the comfort of your home the exact way you want it with the exact creativity you want when you can go out to one of a 1000 nameless places or bring it home nice and soggy? By the same token, we have the best Italian, Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Japanese, French, Turkish, Mediterranean, African, Irish joints in the country. Why would you ever try to make those at home when you can just go out and get it? Right? I'm not sure why I EVER cook at home. _ Wasn't a shot, I'm really surprised. As a former NY'er, I can't imagine wanting to put the effort in for home made pizza with the options available in the NY area, honestly. And I love to cook. I am sure your homemade is good, just not convinced it'd be good enough to warrant not just getting a pie from Vincents. Sorry if that view offends. If I had amazing Polish food two steps from my house, I'd probably cook less of that at home too. I just liken it to making your own deli meats when you have NY Deli's right there to enjoy. Seems alot of effort for minimal gain. As a brief aside, NY doesn't have the best of those other ethnicities. Italian, maybe, sure. Although everywhere has at least one great authentic Italian place these days (anywhere major/metropolitan). NY has restaurants in bulk, their quality is (generally) overrated in many cases. Pizza, steak, italian, Jewsih Deli's, beyond that, one can do equally well or better elsewhere. So, Chicago Pizza vs. New York next, just so I can piss everyone off?

I hope you understand I don't eat exclusively home made pie. We go out for pie routinely. Local and often in NYC. But there is also a time and a place for doing it yourself. Not every Friday night, not once or twice a week, but yeah, every couple of weeks. We have pizza fests with another family we travel with. 15-18 people show up, we make 6 double sized portions of dough, we have a bunch of appetizers, crack a bunch of bottles of vino and just start rolling out dough and putting different toppings on them. In the winter we'll do it in the kitchen. In the summer out on the patio near to pool and we'll cook it on the grill. It's not like NY style pizza. It's our own thing. It's different. It's fun. It's delicious. And it's a family gathering thing. Just did one a few weeks ago when all the kids were in for the holidays and my brother was visiting from Dallas. This isn't a thread about who can make pizza better than NY style pizza. It's a thread about making pizza, how you make it, if you choose to make it. By the way, I don't have an pizzerias - hell- anything two doors down from me. Sometimes it's just nice/fun/delicious to make it yourself. _

So you know know you can. I do my own raviolis. I have a salmon ravioli that everyone loves. Yeah my pizza buddy and I have been threatening to make raviolis at some point. Can't wait. Or we just may open a can of Chef Boy R Dee. _ It is just like pasta. I just use a 4 inch attachment for my Kitchen aid mixer. I have a ravioli cutter and that is it. I either freeze or chill mine before cooking. Helps to make them ahead of time. A bit messy and time consuming but so good with my home made fillings.
