Here's a 2017 list of the percentage of people 5 years and older where English is not the primary language "at home": California - 44.6% - additionally 1-in-5 Cali respondents considered themselves 'poor' in English Texas - 35% New Mexico - 34% New Jersey - 31% New York - 31% Contrast that with Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio or Tennessee - were the percentage is 7% or less - and one can appreciate the scale of difference most of the country feels. You are saying what here?

You are saying what here? I think it's quite shocking that nearly half of California does not speak English as a primary language at home. It's not at all inconceivable - I'd say it's even likely - that with an expansion of the local welfare state in Cali, native English will be a minority language in California. I don't think that's a healthy state of affairs - to lose the 'melting pot'. I've been to quite a few places in the world where individuals don't really identify with their country - but more with their language, clan or tribe. It's not a positive thing. Not now - and never has been.

This country has entire towns and school systems now over 70 percent illegals and their now natural born citizens. If these Latinos were strong Catholics and voted republican you can bet the democrats would be building a wall. You guys want to answer this not sure what we're answering but i'll take a crack at it. i'd say central islip and brentwood are probably close to that number. my sister in law retired from teaching in c.i. a few years ago, and the transformation she saw during her last ten years was incredible. went from an historically black community to a latino/immigrant community in the span of that decade.
who fucking cares but though. joe fucking douglas

I need a cite to prove what every American can see? here in Charlotte we have entire neighborhoods where nothing is spoken but Spanish. Those neighborhoods were all white 15 years ago. if you don’t believe it, I’m not surprised. Dems are buying votes while imprisoning young poor families to decades of poverty. The Orlando Centinal already endorsed Trumps opponent. you think they would do any journalism here? There isn’t a main stream newspaper that has endorsed a republican since Reagan. Almost 40 years ago. Cr or whatever his name is today is supposedly from NJ. I know Dover and most of Hackettstown is Hispanic now. I am sure there are others. It is happening everywhere. Dover was 100 percent puerto Rican 30 years ago. No problem there. They are legal. Its nickname is "Doverico". I am actually quite liberal here. I say let them in. Make the process easy to become legal like it was for our grandparents etc.

Yes Im sure the gardners, construction workers etc are all legal. You got to at least recognize the problem to fix it.

It was calledn Doverico but that was more racist than anything. It was a good split of Puerto Rico and Columbia making up half the school and it is a very small school. The Columbians and the Puerto Ricans hated each other more than any of us got involved in fighting or anything. According to schooldigger.com Dover schools are now 83% Hispanic with only 9% white and 5% black both of which are primarily from Mine Hill. I can't find any stats on home many kids are native English speakers at home for Dover. Maybe one of you can. My father saw the demo change in his 40 years and said he was lucky to get out when he did.

To the "naked eye", the church looks full of latinos. BUT in reality, all the colombians sit together, Mexicans, Peruvians etc. I dont see the hatred you speak of BUT I can tell you many of the SA countries like Columbia dislike PR, DR and Mexico because they speak a poorer quality of spanish and give latinos a bad rep. That's what Ive been told.

The issue isnt the country of origin, the issue is the language. How are people supposed to assimilate (which is the goal, right?) if they dont learn the language. That is the major difference between what we saw in the early 20th century versus what we have seen the past 30-40 years.
And I can personally attest to the hierarchy (for lack of a better word) latinos have placed on one another depending on which country they are from. Some very nasty stuff. Not sayig they are the only ones who do it. I am sure it exists amongst Europeans and Asians as well.

They pay rent and are consumers of goods, it is not a simple problem if it were the current President would not have been able to make it worse today. The laws need to be revamped until then it will not change. There are American born children who left for school and then come home with their parents detained and then deported. What is the answer when we are destroying their lives in the process? We are paying billions to detain persons who have lived here for decades, we need to look at the reality of the situation and not just yell “stop coming here for free shit”.

If you open the flood gates, they cluster together, take over cities and don’t assimilate. All for legal immigration - we do a good job of making Americans. But letting 100,000 illegal immigrants in each moth is a recipe for disaster. Not to mention, during the other big waves of immigration at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, there was no welfare or “free stuff” that this wave has come for. Illegals should not get government benefits when we have millions of actual citizens who need the help.

I went to Brentwood HS, was 40 percent white 30ercent black and Hispanic in the 80s. Now almost 100 percent Latino. We moved my mom about 10 years ago... she said she would never leave but just grocery shopping became dangerous. MS 13 etc. Yet we have liberals saying we don’t have a problem.

I think after 40 years of no policy, he is bringing it to a head. We have laws, you are in law enforcement, see the disparity? Charlottes sheriff, a liberal black man, stood on the courthouse steps and said he would NOT enforce ICE laws. Great, how about all us Trump supporters NOT pay our taxes. Congress and Senate were controlled by Obama and he did nothing....
