Thanks for posting, Maury. Didn't know much about the kid before the draft, but after watching the tapes, we have our eventual replacement for Bilal Powell. Similar size, weight and style. Elusive and quick. Makes people miss, but is not going to run through many tackles. Although he ran a 4.5 40, I don't see breakaway speed on tape. Boise tape is a tough one, since their defense completely dominated the ULL O line, and without running lanes, he couldn't do much to create on his own.
Good hands -- he runs routes, not just screen/wheel routes. Good receiver, soft hands, and turns up the field quickly once he has the ball in his hands. Willing blocker as well. A lot to like about him, even if he may never be a true feature back. Like I said, reminds me a lot of Powell.
Also returned punts at ULL -- not great numbers, but its not like we have any dynamic PRs for him to try to beat out.

Yup, but we did also sign this guy, Brisly Estime, as a UDFA from Syracuse - has the potential to be a dynamic return man. Check out some of his highlights -- averaged 18 yards per PR in college:

Love the simple cut at about the 1:41 mark of the first video. Love this guys ability to put a little juke to gain some extra clearance. _

Not sure he's making the squad but he would be our best returner in a while. _

This is a player I like. He has good shiftiness, good vision, patience to let things open up, good hands, and a willing blocker. My only concerns is he is coming off a foot injury and I don't see that breakaway speed. Overall he's a nice get for where we picked him.

Real interesting. Sometimes these fringe guys with something to prove trump the physical specimens, we'll see.

Seems strange that they picked a guy that seems similar to what we have in Forte and Powell. I expected a complimentary back - a bruiser or home run threat. This guy seems like more of the same from what I've read and seen, but I guess that good is more important than complimentary.

I've like this guy since before the draft - he's a good fit for our West Coast system. I think he has better hands then Powell, but Powell breaks more tackles.
With how fragile Powell has been in the past, he's a great depth option to give Powell some rest and step up when Powell is eventually out for a game or two because of an ankle problem.

Another thing to like about Elijah McGuire -- one of the lowest fumble rates in the NCAAs -- 1 every 168 touches. www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2017-nfl-draft-which-running-backs-raise-red-flags-as-potential-fumblers/Elite (150 or better)856.0: Kareem Hunt, Toledo 434.0: Joseph Yearby, Miami (Fla.) 266.5: De'Veon Smith, Michigan 243.7: Christian McCaffrey, Stanford 168.0: Elijah McGuire, Louisiana-Lafayette 157.2: Jamaal Williams, BYU For comparison, Dalvin Cook fumbled once every 64 touches, and Leonard Fournette, once every 82.

In that first video I swear I was just watching Bilal Powell wearing red.
