Only the refs would have to be in on it if it was just a nudge rather than an out and out fix. I definitely noticed this year that whenever a blow out started, the winning team started getting a higher proportion of penalties called for minor things that happen on every play. A holding call here, an interference call there. There was a subtle pattern that I didn't document and can't really lay out which games. But watch the rest of this season and keep it in mind next season... you'll see it too.

I can believe that there are crooked refs, but there's no way the league itself is fixing games. As Ragu has already pointed out, they'd never do anything to jeopardize all of the money and interest generated through gambling.

The Lions had plenty of opportunities in this game besides that play. How the fuck was Dez not flagged for running onto the field with no helmet doesn't make any fucking sense.

No, I didn't. I had no vested interest, except to watch honest football, decided on the field by athletes and coaches. That's not what we got. To answer your question they could never even conceive to Rig it they would crum ble within a year losing billions of dollars. The money bet on The NFL is the lifeblood of the las vegas and numerous other around the world casinos not to mention offshore sportsbooks. It could never happen, Let alone the fans they lose. The money would have to outweigh the destruction of the whole fucking thing. It is an Impossibility Rigged by the NFL, I agree. Rigged by a 3rd party I don't see why it would be so far fetched. Point shaving or other scandals have happened all over the place. Soccer has these scandals every other year and not just puny markets like Zimbabwe or whatever.

Raoul is right. This shit happens all the time in Europe with soccer and tennis. Thankfully we don't give a shit about those gay sports here.

You can't convince me that the NFL would ever fix a game. Why would they? They're all making tons of money and it doesn't matter who wins. There's just no reason to do it.
Now, could it be organized cirme paying large sums of money to certain individuals? There's certainly more motive there, but The number of people who would need to be involved just makes it unreasonable. You can't pay off one or two people and be assured the game will go in your favor.
As for pass interference, its become such a subjective call. We've seen plays similar to yeterday's get called both ways numerous times. Its at the point that I don't know what constitutes pass interference any more. Often you see the WR and CB running down the field hand checking each other - sometimes its called, sometimes its not. Its become almost arbitrary as to whether or not its going to be called. I'm convinced that if you were to show a bunch of plays to a focus group of long time fans and ask them to say whether or not PI was called on this play, the group would be split on a lot of them and the majority will be close to 50/50 on getting it right. Its surpassed the block / charge in basketball as the most difficult call in sports and the one that requires the most subjectivity. The fact that the penalty is so severe makes it all the more important for the league to better define it and build consistency.

DUH.
It goes way back. You nerds don't think the Jets really beat the Colts in SB do you? Please. league needed an AFC team to win to make merger legit and creat a superstar (who wasn't really very good...just flashy) to attract a younger demographic for the league, including women.
Wake the fuck up y'all.

If Jim Caldwell had the balls to go for it on 4th and 1 this would be a whole different story. Instead their punter shanks a 9-yard punt.
