@stevenspector10 Cowherd just reported that Kirk Cousins and Broncos are close to a deal Lol what a jerkoff. Rumors are the Redskins are thinking about slappping the transition tag on Cousins and trading him. Not prepared to let him get away for nothing. _

The Jets are going to have fucking OODLES of cap space. They can make Cousins the highest paid QB in the league, and then if they choose to do so, still go out and add Andrew Norwell and Ryan Jensen to the OL and a WR like Jarvis Landry or Allen Robinson and STILL have the available cap space to re-sign some of their own guys like Claiborne, Davis and ASJ. And then in addition to that, STILL have the 6th overall pick and two additional selections in the Top 50 alone. The Jets aren’t prohibited from improving the team by throwing the bank at Cousins. Far, FAR from it. That’s precisely the reason why they stand a good chance to land him. And how long does that house of cards hold together? We've been down this road before. Spend big and hope you catch lightning in a bottle. It never really works for us. Technically speaking, we haven't been down this road before. QBs of Cousins caliber (though he's not super elite) just don't become UFAs each season. There's at least a transition/franchise tag on them. Cousins has thrown for over 4k yards for the past 4 seasons. Company of Rogers, Brady, Matt Ryan & Philip Rivers. Just some food for thought. I'm personally 50/50 on this right now. Truly don't know how I'd feel if we signed him.

FA: QB Kirk Cousins OG Andrew Norwell C Weston Richburg WR Jarvis Landry DL Star Lotulelei Re-Sign: Claiborne, ASJ, Davis Cuts: Wilkerson, Skrine, Carpenter, Forte, Anderson Draft (3 rounds) 1st round: OLB Bradley Chubb - N.C. State 2nd round: CB Mike Hughes - UCF 2nd round: RB Sony Michel - Georgia 3rd round: TE Dallas Goedert - South Dakota State 2018 Starting Lineup QB Kirk Cousins RB Bilal Powell/Sony Michel WR Jarvis Landry WR Jermaine Kearse WR Quincy Enunwa TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins LT Kelvin Beachum LG Andrew Norwell C Weston Richburg RG Brian Winters RT Brandon Shell DE Leonard Williams NT Steve McLendon DE Star Lotulelei OLB Bradley Chubb ILB Demario Davis ILB Darron Lee OLB Jordan Jenkins CB Morris Claiborne CB Mike Hughes FS Marcus Maye SS Jamal Adams This is well within our means and makes us an instant fucking contender barring injury. I love this EXCEPT for adding Jarvis Landry. Not really a game changer for me. Modern discount Lavrenous Coles maybe? I think I'd rather save a few more bucks & give Allen Robinson a look OR go big and try to sign Jimmy Graham at TE (effectively saving money on signing another WR & bringing ASJ back) then look to the draft for more offensive weapons. Jimmy would immediately be Cousins safety net. Would think we'd coup a decent compensation pick in 2019 draft for losing ASJ too, no?

Messing up their cap space.

I can't imagine the Jets are going to land Cousins.
Broncos feel they are a QB away and may be right (still).
JAX def feels they are a QB away and are probably REALLY right.
Either of those teams has front offices that will pull for a vet. Manning's status in NY clouds the picture but IMO it's JAX or DEN for Cousins. Shit - even BUF on the outside of the draft might be a suitor. All the teams except JAX have obvious cap space.

And with the 1, 4, 33, 35, 63 and 65, they can load up on young talent quicker than anyone. And with a few good young players already on their roster they might very well become a pretty good team. Although Cousins has said he wants to win soon do even though the Browns can pay him the most, not sure he’d go there. _

He's failed twice at drafting them and knows this is his last shot. So Why draft the 4th best qb in the draft at 6 when you can get a top 10 qb right now? It's either us or the broncos and we can offer him more money. At the end if the day it's all about the money. If I'm maccagnan I'm giving cousins a blank check. Then I'm using the 6th pick on the best wr & in the 2nd I'm going running back & o line

I’d look to land someone like Landry or Watkins in FA. Allen Robinson is probably getting franchised by the Jags.

My take is this, draft either Mayfield or Rosin (Darnold will be gone). Save the FA money it would take to get Cousins and use it to upgrade other areas of the team. Sign McCown at a reasonable price, if it turns ot he wants too much, move on and keep Petty. I don't think having a veteran QB as a mentor is that influential for a young QB. Let the QB coach teach Mayfield or Rosin.

And I don’t think that team is an automatic Super Bowl contender with a competent QB. They seemed to age overnight last year. Their window is damn near closed.

I think last year was a product of the offense being shitty and never staying on the field You give them a decent Qb and it is a whole different season.

Sucks for Jax - and yup - they had the skinniest cap by far. I think it WAS about 18M
