I watched the game on YouTube from the fourth quarter on. Carl Howard was total garbage. They probably blitzed him because he was worthless in coverage. He was beat like a Yazidi at an ISIS wedding. i.e. badly. And when he wasn't giving up big plays, he was committing penalties. And I forgot how terrible Joe Walton was. Every time he was on camera I puked a little in my mouth. Was your choice knitting needles in the eyes, bamboo slivers under the finger nails....and this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I wanted to watch it because I was shocked to see the Howard late hit on Kosar. Perhaps other parts of the game were different than I remembered? They were. I had forgotten that the browns missed a FG from the 3 yard line in OT, and of course it was Howard who was beat on the pass that put the ball on the 3. Actually, the loss was even more unbelievable and painful than I had remembered.

Still not completely over that loss - mud bowl, Doug Brien’s missed FG, loss in Pittsburgh after beating pats are also up there for me. A ball bounces or call goes our way and this cursed franchise coulda been all time. Mayb in an alternate universe.

I truly hope Don Shula rots in hell BECAUSE he is a shitbag. Fuck him and those worthless fucks he called his team. Cheaters before cheating was cool.

First, a hearty fuck you for posting this. I was 8, and that's honestly the first memory of real and vivid disappointment as a person.
Even watching it now...that was so damn close anyway. While a late hit would definitely be called today, I think it was a borderline call back in '86. Both players barely took that second step before hitting him.
Maybe the Jets wouldn't have beaten the Broncos, but I don't know why people assume that when Cleveland should have won that game too.

At least the Browns franchise went on to make the most of it.

Never noticed that, so hyper focused and pissed at Gastineau. Hate that guy.

In all the news about that year all they ever talk about is the drive, not the fact that the Browns never even should have been in that AFC championship game. Then they fumbled on the goal line the next year in the afc championship. Losers.

Luckily The Jets got that Super Bowl win 50 fuckin years ago or they would be the absolute worst.
