My big concern with Darnold is that he took all of his snaps from shotgun. Very little if any 5-7 step drop and throw footage on him. This I think is why I preferred Rosen over him, just seems to have a more pro-ready resume. Someone convince me that this isn't something to be concerned about.Well think about this for a sec : The NY Jets coaching staff is NOT going to coach/train Darnold to be able to do 5-7 step drops? It's not a problem unless the Jets coaching staff MAKES IT a problem which would be if they don't do anything to have Sam Darnold know and get comfortable in doing 5-7 step drop pass attempts. So no. This isn't something to be concerned about because I trust THIS coaching staff to develop Sam Darnold than I would've trusted the past coaching staffs that include a fatass-loudmouth who cared more about the Defense than the offense. Why would you trust this coaching staff with any QBs development? The knock on Hack was his mechanics, and they didn't do anything to address it in his entire first year. I'm warming up to the Darnold pick, but nothing about this organization leads me to believe that they're some kind of QB whisperers. I hope the kid turns out to be great. We're due.

He won't go and start a game where he never has done 5-7 step drops WITHOUT PRACTICE!! That's my point.

Darnold has mechanical issues to clean up based on the things that he actually did do in college, I don't think it can be taken as a forgone conclusion that he'll transition seamlessly to taking snaps from under center. Here are a couple of pieces that highlight some of his footwork issues. www.diehards.com/usc/sam-darnold-film-room-breaks-mold-typical-usc-quarterbackHe does great when the play breaks down but his tape from inside the pocket is pretty inconsistent. He's a bit of a project and I wouldn't mind at all if he sat for a year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about Darnold. I'll just wait until he shows it on the field before annointing him as the savior. Been burned too many times in the past to approach it any other way. Until then it's worth discussing areas of his game that need improvement, IMO.

Kid certainly has that Eli Manning persona and comes across like a franchise QB in his interviews. He clearly has got his head screwed on and is a good kid so I’m rooting for him I really am.

Well he should have "improvised footwork". His last season in College, he had to constantly run for his life 'cause his O-Line was hot garbage. "improvised footwork" is just a nice way of saying "Run like fucking hell"
