don't freak out: what the end of NN really means is big providers like Google, Facebook, etc can't monopolize the bandwidth and be locked in like Obozo did for them. It was deceptively named to make the public think it was a good idea. it NEVER was a good idea Yeah, honestly, ANY kind of shit the gov does with a nice sounding name is usually the complete opposite. And I can't imagine they did ANYTHING good for the internet. They are the champions of censorship.

Theres so much info out there from all sides, its hard to gauge the impact to us average joes. Plus Im still pissed I can only get home internet from Optimum with no competition

Beacon Jet, I believe you can also get Internet through a satellite, also maybe dial up.

I'll wait to see if I am really effected by any of this. I just think the hysteria is a political tool to raise money. Targeting the people who donated to McCabe's "retirement" fund and that whores GoFundMe.

I decided to stay with Verizon when I cut the cord because of the stability of their network, but their were other options in southwest Nassau county

We have Optimum, and apparently theres some deal in place where FIOS cant come in for a number of years, so thats not an option, Ive tried signing up with them. Part of town can get Verizon DSL apparently, but last i checked, their prices were the same for slower speeds. And then there's satellite internet, like Hughesnet or Viasat

Are you having issues on optimum? Mine files. I wish it was cheaper but ....

Its supposed to be for our convenience. Something about not having people always installing lines in the neighborhood. I never understood treating these people the same as electric and water but I think you are right about the kickbacks. Either way, since all this net neutrality hysteria started my internet service has gotten better. My FiOS box now streams Netflix so I get to use my 9 year old Plasma, that I still prefer over my LED, without any extra equipment. And I went from a 75/75 plan to their gigabit plan and my bill is the same. All I did was buy their shitty router. Oh well.

Thats what Ive heard... someones getting paid. Mayor, board, etc. Optimum has 100% coverage here, FIOS something like 38%, on the outskirts.

Ive heard that used where I am, the inconvenience of Verizon coming in and installing everything needed. At the end of the day, Im happy with the service quality I get, its just the cost going up every year with no alternative... sucks. Other than to cancel for a bit and resubscribe I suppose.

Im not sure how Verizon beat the Cablevision monopoly where I live on LI but I am pretty sure there was public demand for it. If enough of you want it, the local pols have to make it happen. Not easy, not fair, but there is recourse.
