In his last 7 years of coaching he has had 2 winning seasons.
2006 9-7 2012 10-6
2002-2006 were all above 500. What makes anyone think that after 5 years out of coaching and his recent lack of success he is better than anyone else?

Over the same time period (granted he had Rogers) McCarthy has had 3 losing seasons with an additionl 5 years coaching since 2006.
Shanahan has had 12 500+ seasons and 2 super bowls in 20 years as a head coach. 60% success percentage
Mike McCarthy has had 10 500+ seasons in 13 years as a head coach. 76% success percentage. Plus he has been in the game more recently.
and Shanahan ran RG3 into the ground his rookie year ruining him.

Shanahan, despite now being out of the league for 5 seasons, has shown to be a helluva lot more adaptable on offense than McCarthy. One of the biggest knocks on McCarthy is that he is married to his system and refuses to adapt for anyone. Guy wouldn’t even bend for fucking Aaron Rodgers. Shanahan also consistently produced balanced offensive attacks that featured one of the top running games in the league. He turned a banquet of nobodies in Denver into 1,000 yard rushers, drafted Alfred Morris in the 6th round in Washington and turned him into a pro-bowler, etc. Meanwhile Green Bay hasn’t had a consistent running game since the days of Ahman Green and their defenses have routinely been shit ever since they beat Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl 8 years ago. A huge brunt of that has to fall on McCarthy. No excuse for keeping Dom Capers 5 years past his expiration date. Shanahan has one of the best track records of the last 30 years...McCarthy was a proven mediocre at best OC before he got the head job in Green Bay where he was gifted Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers back to back. Mike Shanahan made consistent playoff runs with Jake Plummer behind center. As for RGIII, Shanahan never even wanted to draft the guy. Dan Snyder, maybe the most meddlesome owner in professional sports, was infatuated with Griffin. Shanny was a Cousins guy. Still, Shanny adapted his entire offense around Griffin, introducing all of that “rpo” crap a good 2-3 years before it became the next big thing in the NFL, and helped RGIII turn in the most efficient rookie QB season in history. When they tried to get Griffin to be more of a pocket QB, it was a total failure. The guy simply doesn’t have the instincts or pocket awareness to play the position in a traditional way. Neither did Kaepernick. Neither does Lamar Jackson in all likelihood.

Not a fan of bringing in anyone who's been out of the league for a long stretch no matter their pedigree (cowher, shanahan, Holmgren..).
yeah I said it.

But it’s not like things have dramatically changed since Shanahan has been away from the sideline. And like I said, Shanny has already proven that he can adapt. The last time Cowher was on an NFL sideline Jerome Bettis was still pounding away at 2 yards a clip. But Shanahan is a total football lifer. He hasn’t been sitting in a broadcast booth during this time. The last two years he’s been working as a close consultant for his son in San Fran. He’s still fundamentally involved with the game. Not breaking down postgame highlights with Phil Sims and Boomer Esiason in some TV studio.

What makes anyone think that after 5 years out of coaching and his recent lack of success he is better than anyone else? Because he took Scramblin' Steve Young and made him Kid Dynamite, SB champ! That 1994 SB team was wack; all the WCO/stretch stuff; Jerry Rice, John Taylor and Ricky Watters. Nobody could stop it; only parity did. Young had SIX TD passes; against Seau and that defense. It was 7-0 by 13:30 in the 1Q.

Using SF's past 2 years on your resume might not be the best tactic to prove he still has it... Agreed on Cowher also nothing really changed when Cowher left Pittsburgh. They were just as successful.

I feel that the inability to successfully resolve the Albert Haynesworth situation ruined Shanny for the moment; but, seeing that Kyle S has the Niners fighting hard; good to know Mike S is involved...I can get on board
Shanny wins championships with real talent.
