Was getting ready with the wife to fly out to see our Son, who was working in Arizona at the time. Our flight was early in the morning, departing Buffalo.
I Was laying on the floor, watching the 10 oclock news. Suddenly, around 10:45 or so, there were news flashes about a plane crash in my town, not far from where we lived. At first it was reported to be a small plane, then the information came over that a Dash8 had crashed, killing everyone on board and One on the ground.
About midnight, our Son, called. Many of you know about his battles with Cancer.hes been gone almost 6 years now, but ill never forget the words he said next... " I heard the plane crashed on Long street".
Indeed it had. Into Doug and Karen's house. Our Son had dated their daughter when they were in High School. My wife and i got to know them very very well. Proms, Graduations, etc. Doug and i got to know each other. He collected Sports memorabilia. Not a little. A ton. He had given me a bunch of Jets cards, one being a Joe Namath 1967 card.
I opened our door at home. You could smell the burning Jet fuel in the air. Was really foul.
Turns out, as we found out the next morning, that Karen, and one of their other Daughters, hadsomehow managed to escape the house. Doug was not so lucky. He died. Hopefully instantly so as not to suffer.
We went to the airport the next morning, much of the roads near us were closed off. The Airport was very somber that morning.Very quiet, almost errie
Years later i saw Karen at our kids High School awards night. We both offer Scholarships to a student at our Kids school, hers in Doug's memory, ours in our Sons name. We spoke, got a little teary eyed. We had both suffered our own private hell with our losses, so connected together.
Just wanted to share with you all in case you hear about the 10th Anniversary of the Crash of Flight 3407.

i remember that story, it shined a light on how poorly trained and underpaid so many pilots are on these puddle jumping commuter "airlines"

I recall that crash as well. In fact, there is a series on the Smithsonian channel, named Air Disasters. One episode covered this tragedy. Peace to you and yours, as well as all affected by this crash.

Pilot error on one of the first things you’re taught in training. Why would they teach that. Seems dumb.

Sometimes I don't post in threads because I'm at a loss for words. I remember this thread from last year and thought about it for awhile. Anyway, that's all I got.
