17 million a year? I don’t care about the money, but 17 mil a year is a ton. If they give Mosley 17 mil then just Sign Bell to whatever and fuck it. Also shows how worthless he is at drafting and how they feel about Lee. And Can this moron GM get Darnold a few offensive playmakers? It's a ton but the risk is low. Trumaine Johnson's contract is far worse for us. Mosley can and may be off the books by the time Darnold gets his next contract. I see what Mac is doing. He's budgeting for that year so that he can rollover as much as possible to Darnold while keeping a core intact. His poor drafting is what made this necessary however. But if he makes the moves to fix it, like he appears to be doing, then that's the mark of a good businessman. Get Paradis, a decent CB and call it a day. Fill out the rest of the roster with bargain players and rookies. Go into the draft with zero glaring holes so you can continue to take BPA. At this point pretty much any position makes sense in round one and we will have at least one of three very good prospects staring us in the face. Bosa, Williams, Allen - would eventually replace Barr's or Mosley's big contract if he pans out. Greedy would replace Johnson's big contract if he pans out. Any OL taken would eventually replace an Osemele/Paradis big contract. Having guys like this also makes us more attractive to free agents next year.. not that we will have the cap space. This is pretty much spot-on. It certainly doesn't make up for the dearth of talent Mac has drafted, but it shows he definitely understands the FA side of things. Maybe he gets better, maybe he gets better eyes helping him. Either way, this is shaping up to be a smart off-season

Right now, you have to figure the starters are Barr-Mosley-Williamson-Jenkins in a 3-4, and Barr-Mosley-Williamson in a 4-3, or some such.
Does Lee get moved, or do you keep him as a backup/pass coverage guy for one more year?
Is Jenkins good enough that you would take a Quinnen Williams to boost the DL at 3 over Josh Allen, or do you draft Allen and build a super-unit at LB? Assuming no trade back, and Bosa is off the board at 1/2?

Any OL taken would eventually replace an Osemele/Paradis big contract. Having guys like this also makes us more attractive to free agents next year.. not that we will have the cap space. Agreed. It sounds like a number of these new contracts are designed to have minimal overlap with Darnolds next (big) contract. I like what they are doing, especially if they add Paradis and a corner. Then there are very few holes, and no glaring ones, going into the draft. Yes, they could use a premium OT, a #1 CB, a #1 WR, and a stud edge rusher, but those guys dont get to free agency all that often. People are saying dont spend a bundle on ILB/Saftey/Interior linemen, but thats what hits free agency, so you can either sit on the money and wish an OT/WR/CB/EDGE guy shakes loose, or you spend it, and spend a little more to bring in the best at those positions. Our new LBers and LG are expensive, but some of the best at their position. We got an arguably top available #3/slot receiver, and a 4/5 WR that plays specials (so no more hoping a 5/6/7 round WR pans out in the draft). Look at what the free agent SAFETIES are getting this year. Very little GM change, and teams with cap space, means big money's getting spent. Now, we have to pray that Macc can and will address those "premium" positions in the draft. With that first, he could address any of those "big 4 premium positions" - LT/#1 WR/#1 CB/EDGE

^^^I have a feeling we're going to see a marked improvement in Trumaine. Williams won't take any of his laziness.

17 million a year for a LB who doesnt sack the QB. We are going to waste "cheap" Darnold. Macc is worthless. At least this guarantees he is fired this year. not a 'mike' lb...i like him but they should have spent the 17 mil on Flowers...i know don't beat a dead horse ...

He wanted either Miami (Flores) or Detroit (Patricia). If he took $17M from Detroit, if he was even open to listening to the Jets, they've have had to pay probably $19-20M, a premium, like it took a couple extra mil a year to get Mosley from Baltimore.

^^^I have a feeling we're going to see a marked improvement in Trumaine. Williams won't take any of his laziness. Had by far the best two years of his career when Williams was still the DC with the Rams. Johnson excels in press man coverage, that’s what was so goddamn infuriating about Bowles. Go out and spend $70 million on one of the best press corners in the league just to constantly have him playing 10 yards off the LOS. Williams LOVES playing press and getting physical

Hopefully it gets Trumaine's head out of his ass. 2015 & 2016 PFF graded Trumaine a top 25 corner, with Williams as his DC.

Hiring a coach and then a GM and vice versa doesn’t make it any easier.

Yep At least Macc has made some nice trades during his tenure, obtained Darnold and is coming out guns blazing this offseason. I can’t think of any positives that Bowles brought to the table.

Goes all the way back to the Rexx Ryan years.. they didnt clean house all at once, and havent had a GM and HC on the same page since.
