I was thinking sad thoughts about this. I think may be a better idea to aim for a superstar in the draft as opposed to trading down and accumulating picks. Hear me out:
3 - take Bosa/Allen. If they pan out and become 15 sacks per year guys, they will eventually have to sign a contract that will undoubtedly and temporarily make them the highest paid player at their position.
Trade down - take second tier pass rusher. If they pan out and become 10 sack a year guys, they will likely demand the same or at least extremely similar contracts despite not quite being at the same level.
It's the nature of contracts these days. The best players don't necessarily get the best contracts; the best contracts simply go to whomever is up next.
This financial point of view may also make it better to go OL in the first round, as their superstar contracts aren't anywhere near pass rushers. Doing this allows you to keep your first rounder more easily in the future considering the financial demand wouldn't be as high. So it may be better to create the pipeline of pass rushers through later rounds, because if one turns into the big contract superstar it A. Hurts less to lose them to another team since they weren't a first rounder and will net a compensation pick but also B. Possibly make it easier to hold on to them without a first round pedigree
So basically what I'm saying is, if the intention is to get a passrusher in round one, don't trade down. If the intention is to get a good to great player who will allow for more cap and draft flexibility in the future, trade down and take OL
Did this make any sense? Probably not.

Basically what I'm saying is, take positional cap value into consideration. A 10/10 edge player will get paid p much the same as a 8/10 edge player, so go for the 10. Or go for a bunch of 6's later in the draft and stick with cheaper players in early rounds.
But I also feel this:
What are there better chances of?
Opportunities to draft a Bosa/Allen next year and beyond? Or Opportunity to draft a Williams / Taylor / Dillard next year and beyond?
I'd say the latter is far likelier. Therefore, don't trade down. Just take the superstar pass rusher so you're more likely to acquire and keep a top contract kind of guy for the long haul, and get your great-but-not-otherworldly OL later on or next year, because they ALWAYS end up being available every single year. Bosas and Allen's not so much.

If Bosa falls into the Jets laps, then you take him unless some team blows your tits off with an offer to move up.
We’ve been looking for a quality edgerusher for the better part of 15 years now. I’m not passing on a kid like Bosa just so we can pick up a 2nd round pick and use it on some mediocre center prospect.
If the Giants want to offer #6 and #17 to move up, great. Pull the trigger.
But I’m not trading down just for the sake of trading down.

I'd even go full Tanny and take OL at both 6 and 17, or wherever the top two picks end up being... But again, this is only if Bosa is unavailable and if they truly not sold on Allen. I don't wanna be paying a middling pass rusher a top contract in five years just because he's pretty good. He better be great to warrant it.

That would be my plan If the Giants are willing to give up #6 and #17, then I say fuck passrusher in the 1st round and take Dillard/Jonah Williams at 6 and either Bradbury or Risner at 17. Then come back and take an EDGE at the top of the 3rd like Polite or Banogu.

Mac's biggest weakness he has tough time evaluating talent outside the top 5. Still the best thing is if they can trade down and get a few additional picks including a second they should do it. The Jets in the current state have still too many holes they need a center, edge rusher,WR, CB a LT og. I think Center is the biggest hole not gonna happen but I love the Jets to draft Garrett Bradbury.

My problem with this thinking is, if all we ate trying to recoup is a 2 then we are destined for a no deal or bad deal. How far are we willing to drop to only get a 2? Honestly, I'm not even sure if dropping 2 picks is worth that considering what we gave up last year. If I'm dropping to #5 overall I want more than just a 2nd rounder. If I'm thinking about future firsts, I'm looking at the Redskins and Giants as my preferred trade partners as they currently seem most likely to have miserable seasons. Bosa at 3 or trade with Redskins for 1,2, future 1 and a then some. That future 1 may legitimately be a top-2 pick next year

Dropping only to get a 2 would maybe be if we traded back from 3 to 4. Otherwise, we better get a lot more than that.

I think Bosa is overrated and will bust out of the league within 4 years due to suckage or injury. There, I said it.

Its a good point... you see a lot of second tier players get paid big money, sometimes as much as or more than, top tier guys just because they hit free agency. Might as well try to draft the guys that never see free agency, i.e. the top tier studs.

That's my point exactly. If you're gonna pay them around the same, take the guy with the bigger superstar potential. It's like Cousins vs Wilson, or Cousins vs Rodgers. Cousins gets just as much money, but for what? For being the next contract, that's it.
