Reminds me another 32Green shaggy-dog story.
I have a multi-talented friend who plays a bunch of instruments. He decided he would learn the steel drum too. He showed up to his first steel drum lesson right from work. The location was the back door of a wearhouse. When he walked in there were 3-4 African Americans and the teacher, also an AA. Immediately, two of the students jumped up and were looking for the front door...my pal, a 6'3" Irish guy in a suit quickly realizes what this looks like and shouts "no, no, no..I'm here for the drum lessons". They all relax, have a good laugh, all was well.
He now makes a ton of money playing yard parties, cocktail/happy hour's etc.
He even had one chick try to fire him on sight because he "wasnt authentic", lol. She ended up loving him and gives him referrals.
Gotta love cultural appropriation.

I hear ppl w much less talent playing in bars and restaurants all the time. You know, the kinda shit where you're like omg someone unplug that PA FFS already yikes. I would not mind hearing that at all tho. Keep playing live w ppl and you'll start getting better and better. And even get paid. Esp that type of songs that aren't done all indulgent and shitty. Just play the song and quit wankin! Lol |
