Or maybe... rookie quarterbacks will have good games and bad games during their first season, and this is the week where Mayfield and Allen looked good and Sam looked bad. Let's wait more than 3 weeks before tallying up the totals.

Look, I don't want to labelled as a Debbie downer type... That ship sailed a long time ago. I'm convinced that "mainejet" is a Russian bot created to weaken the morale of sports fans in a major American city.

Now we should sign Webb to our practice squad and groom him to be Sam’s backup for the next 5 years as an extra F*** You. fu to who? The Giants. If all works out well, they'll have to watch the QB they should have drafted and the QB they did draft but gave up on take over New York.

Why does Darnold's agency want him to sit? That's my In Between The Lines question Because he was drafted by the Jets. Good one, but have you heard that Darnold is ready to sign his contract? In a statement released at the same time, the Jets also announced a new relationship with a company called "SD14" who will be funneled paid a significant amount of money every year to provide "health and fitness services" to the team.

The only way I see the team being improved is at CB, so I guess they could be improved? Maybe a game better or so? But even at 7-9 that's a 2 game improvement and that's a big deal when you play 16. You don't think adding Enunwa (back from injury) and Pryor, plus an improved Hansen, to last year's WR corps is an improvement? How about Long instead of Wesley Johnson and a healthy Winters vs. an injured Winters? Or Bridgewater and Darnold instead of Petty and Hackenberg? Crowell vs. an old and injured Forte? Anderson and Shepherd vs. a lazy Wilkerson? 2nd year Adams and Maye vs. Rookie Adams and Maye? Plus, the addition of Johnson at CB is not small. Since Claiborne and Skrine are returning, the signing really impacts 3 roles. The improvements are: Johnson over Claiborne as the #1 CB, Claiborne over Skrine as the #2 CB, and Skrine over the motley crew of Roberts/Burris/Robinson as the #3 CB. Some of these may turn out to be marginal gains, but to think that they can't add up to a 2-4 game improvement seems pretty pessimistic.

I wouldn't count Mauldin as off the team yet. Not only might he make the team, he may still turn out to be the starter. I don't necessarily hold Maccagnan responsible for Devin Smith's woes. It's hard to predict injuries and I don't believe Smith was thought to be an injury risk coming out of Ohio State. Believe your right and wasn't it Cro that rekt his ribcage? Gotta wonder the backstory on that one I thought I remembered that it was Pryor, but I looked it up and it was Jaiquawn Jarrett.

Okay ... the Jets' QB situation looks interesting ... Bridgewater looks better than anyone expected, and the other two are on-line. But Maccagnan's first draft is probably very telling of exactly what I've been saying about him all along. It looks like the only one of his first draft class people that will still be on the roster on opening day is Williams. All the others will be gone. I don't know what it is with Jets' GMs. The only guy who was a successful executive with the Jets was Parcells. His own teams did well, and he put together the group the Herm took to the playoffs three times. Just don't believe Maccagnan is the man. I wouldn't count Mauldin as off the team yet. Not only might he make the team, he may still turn out to be the starter. I don't necessarily hold Maccagnan responsible for Devin Smith's woes. The kneeling is not a random protest. Sports businesses (pro sports leagues) include a political ritual (the playing of the national anthem) in their work events, which forces a reaction from their employees. Most choose to react to it by standing, others have chosen to sit or kneel, and it was within NFL rules for players to do that - until now. If your company put a policy in place that every employee needed to salute a picture of the President of the United States on their way in the door every day, would you do it? Would you have done it 2 years ago? If you chose not to, would you be a “traitor” or “Un-American”? If you were fired or quit because of your refusal to obey the policy, would you be pissed off or would you just say “Well, I guess they were within their rights to implement that rule”, shrug your shoulders and move on? What if there were only a couple of other employment options in your line of work, and those companies either paid significantly less than your original company, or made you adhere to the same policy, or both? Every member of the military (myself included) vows to obey orders from the president no matter who that person is. We also have to stop, find a flag, stand at attention and salute when the anthem is played on base/post and if you are in your car you are to pull over and quietly observe. You can be pissed off all you want about the policy but it isn't your choice other than to leave and find another job. It also isn't like every one of them wasn't aware of the procedure of playing the anthem before games when they chose to pursue a career in sports. That ritual isn't new. I will also add that they can always call a press conference, start a charity, go on every show they can find and discuss their chosen gripe, just not while at work. Thanks for your service. The players knew that the anthem would be played, and to my knowledge none of them have expressed an issue with that. What's new is the rule that is telling them that they need to react a certain way to it. The CEO of the Jets has chosen to insulate his players from that policy, and if we're trying to strip this down to the players having to follow the rules of their workplace, then we shouldn't be criticizing him for his decision any more than the NFL is being criticized for theirs.

Last I checked, supporting peaceful protest is pretty American. Although that may not be a popular stance around here. I still wish those players who do kneel would better articulate what they're kneeling about - police brutality, Trump, etc. Agreed, but you are not entitled to protest at work. There is simply nothing more to this stupid story. The kneeling is not a random protest. I’d be all in favor of the mock uniforms Jamal Adams posted a while back. That looks fucking great. A bit like the 80’s unis but with a more modern twist. Me likey.

Here’s one of the best highlight reels I’ve found on Darnold without all the BS music. I know these are only his best plays, but in all the time I've been a Jets fan (40+ years), we've never had a QB who could do these things. I just wet myself.

According to Chris Cooley (take that for what it's worth), the Vikings will offer Cousins 3 years, 91 million guaranteed. If that's true: Checkmate. Checkmate how? Still don't know what we're offering and who we're signing to entice him. Allen Robinson spent his last night liking tweets from people who cover the Jets on Twitter. If the Jets and Vikings are at all close in their offers, you have to figure that Cousins would sign with the team that went to the NFC Championship Game last year instead of the team who's gone 5-11 the last 2 years -- regardless of who we sign. If the Vikings are offering over 30 million per year with 91 million guaranteed... you're right that I don't know what we're offering but it would be ridiculous for it to be substantially more than that. There is hope though... www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000919867/article/kirk-cousins-options-open-vikings-mulling-qb-decision
