What did it for me were all the ex-Jets who played for him absolutely raving about him. It was like Rex's guys talking about him and that's a good thing. Especially when he runs a Defense that nasty. Lemme get dat.

lol That's pretty much it. For a good chunk of this site that's the key criteria. Yeah, I think this is bullshit. A HUGE chunk of Jets fans still love Rex, but they just don't want him as an HC anymore. We've seen what his ceiling is and that's not a knock against him. Rex has a lot of great qualities. However, his problem is that he never grew as a coach and learned from his mistakes. Personally I'm not sold on Quinn or Bowles just yet. Nobody knows if they're going to be great NFL HCs, but they do have a lot of Rex's good qualities. Qualities that made us love him in the first place, but it's time for a change. I can't see Quinn or Bowles being any worse than Rex. That means if they don't succeed at least we're not in a worse position than we are now.

I think BOWLES will be signed tomorrow. I loved QUINN and still feel he will be a great HC. However, BOWLES did a lot with far fewer stars and produced a mighty defense. The guy has worked with GIBBS, PARCELLS, ARIANS, and is an ex-NFL-er who played in a Super Bowl. He just might be a better choice for us.

Let's not forget how awesome a guy like Earl Thomas has been. It's not like they don't have talent on the defensive side of the ball up there. That said, it sounds like he has put his players in a position to not have to think too much in order for them to be able to play fast. For me, that's where Rex's defense is too complicated. You need smart players to pull it off and I just feel like keeping it effective and simple is the better way to go. As you can see in Rex's case, it didn't do us much good to try and confuse these QBs and Coordinators. Give me a guy that gets his players to line up and play fast and effectively. I'll take that. Sounds like both Quinn and Bowles have that quality.
Personally, I wanted an offensive minded coach. But that's fine because I'd rather have a quality personnel guy as my GM and then a guy that just knows how to coach running the operations.

KISS on the defense totally neuters a guy like Manning whose main skill is in deciphering a defense. If there's nothing to decipher you take away his main weapon and he just has to rely on physical abilities - of which there are diminishing returns.
