If you would have asked any of the NFL insider types prior to all of the coaching searches beginning, who the 2 hottest candidates were going to from the Coordinator world, they would have said Quinn and Bowles.
Nothing during the search process seems to dispute that, and they truly seem to be the hottest candidates in the coaching searches, whether it be Coordinator or not.
With that said, the Jets appear to be in at least decent position to land one of them, if not even having their pick of which one they want. For the job that was vastly considered the worst or 2nd worst of the available options, if he comes away with Quinn or Bowles, Jets fans should be pleased, as he came away with a coach that other teams, deemed more desirable, also wanted.
I probably just jinxed it all, but I must say, to this point, I can't imagine the situation unfolding much better for the Jets. That is a welcome change.

New GM Lame owner No QB No WR's No CB's Insane media market Well I will say that plenty of coaches want to be heroes - and desperate situations can likewise breed fast turnarounds. Parcells was quite happy to come to a team that had won 4 games in two years.

I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to come here. New GM Lame owner No QB No WR's No CB's Insane media market It's not so bad as long as you know there is a plan to rebuild the team. If you get the team to 6-10 or 7-9 you can say the team made improvement. If the team does worse you can blame it on cleaning up the last guy's mess. It's the same pass we gave Idzik his first year.

Why would the Jets job be deemed undesirable? It's NYC, there's a 6th overall pick, you have a boatload of money to work with, and a smart new GM that has a good track record of drafting and evaluating talent. Doesn't sound too shabby to me.

Plus, with the amount of cap space that we have, it gives a new GM and Coach the chance to quickly reshape the roster. Also, doesn't hurt that Quinn and Bowles are both NJ guys.

I can't imagine anyone actually wanting to come here. New GM Lame owner No QB No WR's No CB's Insane media market Incredibly stupid post. Only valid points you have are QB and CB, which can be still be addressed quickly via the draft and FA. Otherwise, if you can't handle the media, you probably don't have the thick skin necessary to win a Super Bowl in any city, let alone NY. Not to mention that Woody is nowhere near as bad as thie board paints him as. Say what you will, but at least Woody is willing to spend money and is finally outsourcing smart football guys to run the organization. Would you prefer the Wilpons?

i'm curious how often the 'hottest' or 'second hottest' candidates find success... and how quickly they're fired, if ever
like, have the hot candidates from the last 2-3 years been successful? too lazy to look it up

So far so good...at least when all teams in need were all coming out of the starting gate. Good GM pick? Check...Good HC pick? Uh oh...not sure yet.
As I stated in another post, these are the situations that have historically backfired on us. I don't think its a case of a quality candidate not wanting to come here, now its a game of chess that we MUST win. Wait for Quinn or offer to Bowles? Offer to Bowles and he waits for a better offer from Atlanta? He goes to Atlanta, Quinn heads to the Super Bowl, and we get submarined by another team (i.e. Denver, SF, Chicago?)? The Herd was suggesting that the Jets should pick up the phone and see if Urban Meyer would take a boatload of money to come to the NFL and work his magic.
Ugh...

I like how Woody and crew got Bowels in before going to Atlanta if he leaves without a contract I think Atlanta will hire him. I posted a article from Rotoworld this is my biggest concern with Bowels. I hope he is not using the Jets as leverage to get more money out of Atlanta.
The Falcons were in the Rex Ryan hunt, but lost out to the Bills. Bowels will interview for a second time with Atlanta on Wednesday. Per the Journal-Constitution, Fagtriots OC Josh McDaniels is expected to stay with New England after his team advanced to the AFC Championship Game, nixing any opportunities for McDaniels to interview this week. Seahawks DC Dan Quinn is expected to go to the Jets. Bowels is said to be tight with new Falcons lead personnel man Scott Pioli, who is Bill Parcells' son in law. Bowels worked for Parcells in Dallas and Miami.
