I read his original contract was for 12 mil. Then they extended him and he's made a total of 34 mil because of the extension. He never played a game past his original contract. Ouch. There was NO reason extend him early and they didn't get any kind of discount. Seems dumb. Substiture Jamal Adams and then email that shit to Joe Douglas. Thanks.

And I’d absolutely take him provided that we can get him for $18 million a year or less. He hasn’t been the 18 sack a year phenom that many projected him to be, but he’s still a total fucking freak who is one of the best edgerushers in the league against the run, can still give you 8-10 sacks a year, can play with his hand in the dirt or as a standup OLB, and just turned 27 last month. The Jets haven’t had a passrusher with Clowney’s kind of talent since Abraham. He’s simply capable of doing things that the Jordan Jenkins’ of the NFL landscape are incapable of. Everson Griffen would be a nice fallback option as a cheaper stopgap. Huh? He's never had a double digit sack season and got like 3 last year in a contract year. Plus he played next to JJ Watt. Plus his knee is fucked. Hard pass on this dude. He’s had multiple 9 sack seasons. I don’t really care about the sack numbers anyway. Jordan Jenkins had 8 sacks last year and 7 the year before. Yet he’s not even remotely an impact player. It’s not just about sacks. Clowney routinely blows up plays in the backfield and is a genuine disruptor at the line of scrimmage. He’s a freak who Gregg Williams can utilize in multiple different ways. We aren’t getting some 15+ sack a year edgerusher unless we trade multiple 1st round picks for one like the Bears did with Mack (which is a rarity itself) or we take one at the top of the draft (and there’s still no guarantee the player will pan out). Does Clowney deserve $16-18 million a year? Probably not. But that’s the going rate for every edgerusher with a pulse. And he’ll get it. If not from us then probably Seattle. There are no OL, CB’s, WR’s, etc worth spending big money on. So why not take a big leap forward in shoring up a deficiency that has haunted us for the better part of two decades?

Clowney graded out as a better passrusher and run defender than Yannick Ngakoue who someone is about to give up multiple high picks for and sign to a $20+ million a year deal. His sack numbers aren’t elite, but he’s absolutely a disruptive player.

Cutting guys like Winters, Roberts, Enunwa and Bellamy gets us to $50+ million under the cap.

Actually more than that
The OTC numbers still have Trumaine Johnson’s contract on the books. We free up an extra $11 million after June 1st. That’s enough to take care of our rookie class right there.
