Chad could've been great, but we are not dealing with what could have been. Kenny O was the second best QB in the illustrious history of Jets QB's and it aint even close. 2× Pro Bowl (1985, 1991); NFL passer rating leader (1985); and AFC Player of the Year (1985). He was also the first quarterback to pass for 400 or more yards (431) in a game and earn a perfect NFL 158.3 rating, a feat not be matched until 27 years later. He was one of only 4 quarterbacks in NFL history to have a perfect passer rating of 158.3 in a game while attempting 30 or more passes and the holder of another NFL record that lasted for 25 years when he combined for 927 (884 net) yards and 10 touchdowns passing with Dan Marino. And my favorite Stat line --- O'Brien was the ONLY QB with a winning record vs Dan Marino. O'Brien was a record setting QB forced to play behind a paper mache line. I've never seen a QB have any type of success while absorbing as many hits as O'Brien. And if that is not enough to generate love for Kenny O, he happens to be the father-in-law to Josh Peck. This. And anyone who says otherwise is dumb.

Chad could have been Payton Manning if he'd have had NFL level arm strength. Even so, he was the second best. How sad is that?
Don't forget he beat Favre to drag inept Miami to their one-off fluke conference title in 2008.

Any of you foreskins actually watch Kenny O play? To say he’s not #2 or even a debatable #1 is criminal.

There was a time during the mid-80s when it was even debatable whether he was better than Marino. I know history didn’t pan out that way at all given Marino’s numbers and long playing career, but there were a few years where there was that question.

I'd have to go with Pat Ryan as one of the better Jets back up QBs with an honorable mention to Tom Tupa for manning up and almost winning the game after Vinny T went down in 1999, until Rick Meier f'ed it up. Ray Lucas gets a mention also for standing tall in the face of a difficult situation. Hope his health problems have cleared up.

The Jets definitely fucked up not taking Marino and they shoulda known better. Marino went number one overall in the USFL draft that year. Also, when the Jets were on the clock Shula was worried that the Jets would grab Marino ahead of them. The dolphins GM at the time told Shula “don’t worry, if the Jets take Marino we’ll take a quarterback (O’Brien) and Shula shouted back “I don’t want a fucking quarterback, I want Marino!”
