He chooses not to speak with the media, which I don't think makes him a thug. I don't think he's ever been arrested, and I've not seen any derogatory news stories. I guess he just doesn't want to talk, maybe not comfortable in speaking, maybe just a prick. Personally, I think playing in the NFL at the level he is paid, necessitates some interaction, so if you just want to throw out clichés so be it. He just seems like a loner, probably has a close circle of friends. I hope he kicks the Patriots asses.

Half the NFL, including plenty of Jets, has been arrested for gun charges, assault, abuse, traffic violations, drug charges...if you start nit picking you're going to run out of people to root for pretty quick. the nfl is full of punks and thugs. and how about listening to the talking heads on the football shows. michael irvin? dan marino? jerome bettis? rocket scientists all. the only ex-players who might be literate are boomer, collinsworth, and simms.

I don't know if I'd say "thug" but he has a contract mandated responsibility to appear before the media. Just like every other player - he should not get preferential treatment. His act is getting very old. If he doesn't like the requirements of his job, then get a different one.
