One of the last positions I'm worried about on this team right now. Ivory and Powell are both only 26 and I'm sure we'll sign someone like Spiller or similar in FA or the draft.
We've really been spoiled by RBs since CMart - for nearly 20 years now. Him and LaMont Jordon, directly into Leon Washington and Thomas Jones, directly into LT and Shonn Greene to the current squad we have now. Your right. We've had pretty decent running backs in the past and we all know some of them are a product of the offensive line. But I think a cheaper alternative from Spiller would be guys like Abdullah and Duke Johnson who will be day 2 picks and are very similar to Spiller. I would love to save the 3-4 million dollars spent on a guy like Spiller and try to address another issue. more importantly is that the running back production isn't all on the oline but also on qb's who can't seem to get the defense to respect their passing game or ability to protect the ball. both geno and sanchez just don't scare anyone. to be sure the receivers aren't helping but this past season the jets had the best set of receivers since edwards was teamed with holmes and the qb failed. and that's after harvin was brought on board. get a qb who can throw the quick slant or make the defense pay and everything about the offense is that much better.

Another "under the radar" type of guy to look at is Darryl Richardson. He has that lightning quickness to turn the corner and can catch the football out of the backfield. He actually has a better skill set than Powell IMO. Is he still on the team? Reserve contract/PS? Yes I think he was signed to a futures/reserve contract on December 2014.

Ivory, Spiller/Vereen and Duke Johnson in the 3rd would be pretty much ideal and is realistic. If that happened and we took a similar approach at QB (keep Geno, sign FA Jake Locker, draft Hundley in Round 2) then I'd be pretty happy at having added competition and a mix of young guys who still have upside and potential. This would also mean we used Rounds 2 and 3 on QB, RB, and in that case I'd hope we go either OLB (a stud pass rusher) or elite WR.

I think this team needs to get away from the idea of having a scrambling QB and find an effective pocket passer that can run a spread offense. Geno might show some improvement but I agree that we need to get some veteran competition like a Locker, Hill or Fitzpatrick. As far as Hundley goes he failed miserably as a pocket passer last year then they went back to the run and gun approach, he is terrible at making his reads, and like RG3, if he runs as much as he did in college he will get walloped in the NFL. I think I would draft a guy really late like Bridge or Mannion. Then draft a QB high next year.

I don't love him but I think he's a good prospect and would be a calculated risk similar to what Geno was in Round 2. You never know until you get the guy in the NFL and see how he does when "the bullets start flying." Hundley certainly passes the test for most measureables and capability, it's really a question of whether he can transition to the NFL smoothly. You honestly never know....it's why Russell Wilson lasted to Round 3. Projections are tough but for a team that still has an unsettled QB situation why not take a shot with a 2nd round pick on a guy who has maybe a 30-50% chance to be a very good NFL QB? EDIT: I also don't have a problem using a later pick on a QB instead of going with Hundley. If Big Mac and his new scouts see something in Mannion or Bridge then I'm good with that. I just want to continue taking shots at QBs in the Draft until we get one.

Will the O-line and secondary be revamped? Are we finally going to have an elite pass rusher? It should be a very interesting next few months.
