You are probably looking at about 11M in cap room right now, give or take a million or so. You could sign a couple more vet minimum guys if need be. Rookies will eat up about 5M in cap room. Would be awesone to add Shorts/Johnson for around $3-4 million per and maybe add an inline TE like Spaeth or Pascoe. There's no way we have $11M in cap left. Counting the set aside for the draft we're at $14M. That doesn't include Cro, Gilchrist, Colon and Purdum cap hits. Definitely could free up cap by cutting some more guys if necessary, but we're pretty good where we stand. EDIT: Responded to the wrong post. We could still do a deal for Shorts or Spiller and a blocking TE like Pascoe IMO.

My mistake. So you're saying Cro, Gilchrist, Colon and Purdum will take up about $8.6M in cap space? Sounds about right. Which means we realistically have about $6M left (deducting the draft) before we need to make any cuts. Great offseason.

We could still do a deal for Shorts or Spiller and a blocking TE like Pascoe IMO. Spiller is off the market. Signed with the Saints today. Still can add cap space by restructuring guys like Mangold, Decker. Also likely to be some cuts in the secondary, but I would not expect anything there until TC -- will depend upon health of Milliner and McDougle.

Great offseason. Exactly. Colon and Purdum didn't burn up much space at all considering they are replacing two bottom of the roster guys making 510K, so the net effect is maybe 1M combined for Colon and Purdum.

Oh well, lots of RBs in this years draft. Would love to get Gordon personally. Doubt he lasts until or 2nd pick. Hope we do some maneuvering to get a late 1st. We're in a very good cap situation.

C'mon did you HONESTLY think that the Jets would sign every single FA of the off-season? Seriously bro, seriously?

All we heard from some people was how hard it was going to be for the Jets to spend the minimum amount of cash required by the CBA. We heard the Jets will have to overpay for FAs and front load contracts and basically just piss away money. Meanwhile....we are just 3 days into free agency and the Jets have spent enough cash to easily exceed the required cash threshold. They needed to average 141M dollars in cash spending over this year and next to be compliant. With just the current deals in place and factoring in the rookies signing bonuses and first year salaries, the Jets will exceed 141 million. The best part is that the Jets did this with only one big money deal. The rest of these contracts are good value and leave outs for the team in a couple years if things don't work out. They also don't hamstring future caps right now. Well done by the new regime. the funny thing about this is some fans and talking heads are giving idzik credit for them having so much cap space. in truth the moves idzik made were what any other gm would have made. where he messed up was not giving the coach a longer term contract and then not providing enough good players. decker was a good move but harvin was not given that the jets were just so far out at that point. as for the drafts, idzik drafted for the right positions but made some pretty bad picks. i guess it's possible for some like shaq evans to come around or even milliner and macdougle but their doors of opportunity are closing that much more every day they're not on the team playing.
