i for 1 like the move. he is a quality depth signing with potential. i think he will be a good number 2 behind ivory. powell is just a mediocre rb. Also this move doesnt stop us from drafting a guy in the 2nd or 3rd round if we choose to. This move gives Mac daddy the ability to go BPA in every round. The BPA part cannot be stressed enough. Even if some of these moves like Ridley or Henderson aren't groundbreaking or anything they are more than serviceable and can fill our holes (heh) if need be. Come draft day there's not a single pick we'll be pressured into taking, save maybe the Mariota situation.

This is another player (call it an honorary Quintin Couples) that Jets fans and media are going to forever name butcher.
I've already seen in the media and other fora: Steven Ridley Steven Ridlay Stephen Ridley

Ridley really didn't fumble in 2014
Hopefully he works on it....lol

Maybe working with fully inflated balls will help.

I like it, I would say the only absolute needs on this team now are OLB, O-line and QB.
BPA all the way.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Jets were able to move down in the 1st round and they take Gordon. They need a HB of the future and he's not on the roster and quite literally there won't be any RB with a contract post 2015. Best case scenario. Move down with Browns, pick up #12 & #19. Take OLB/OT at #12 and Gordon at #19. Sounds like good plan. But a better plan would be to take Mariota.

Ridley: 9 fumbles in 650 attempts Ivory: 8 fumbles in 636 attempts Charles: 24 fumbles in 1249 attempts. just blown out of proportion by Belicheat.

Ridley: 9 fumbles in 650 attempts Ivory: 8 fumbles in 636 attempts Charles: 24 fumbles in 1249 attempts. just blown out of proportion by Belicheat. In 2014, the average NFL running back fumbled about once every 110 carries. Both Ridley and Ivory fumble more than the average NFL back at once every 70-80 carries. The good news is that Ridley did not fumble at all in 2014 on 94 carries in 2014 and Ivory fumbled twice on about 200. Bilal Powell, by comparison has fumbled twice in his career on over 330 carries. Also worth noting that 4 of Ivory's 8 fumbles came in his rookie year -- since then he has fumbled 4 times on 500 carries -- better than the league average. I am not thrilled with the Ridley signing -- one season with limited action is not enough to convince me his problems with ball security are in the past. But its not like we have a lot of money or years committed to him.

I'll defer to the new GM and HC's ability to evaluate talent. Now that he's a Jet, I'll be positive despite initially coming out against signing him. The fumbling thing does look to be somewhat over blown, likely a Belicheat mind game.

There's no guarantee he makes it through camp. If he shows nothing we replace him with someone who shakes free. There's also no guarantee that a back doesn't fall to us and we draft him. He's the third back right now, with minimal commitment

I doubt we draft a RB now unless it's a late round flyer on someone. I'm not the biggest Ridley fan but the Jets now have a solid rotation with him, Ivory and Powell. Why, all 3 guys are ufas next year?

Why, all 3 guys are ufas next year? IDK The Jets might look at OLB, WR, OL, QB, etc as more pressing matters to attend to. And aside from Gurley and Gordon, I really don't care for any other RB's slated to go in the first 3 rounds. I like Duke Johnson, but he's a change of pace back. And I don't see the point in drafting one of those guys in the first 2-3 rounds when the FA pool is littered with decent, cheap backs every year. Why spend a high pick on a Duke Johnson or Tevin Coleman or Ameer Abdullah when we could've easily signed someone like Shane Vereen or Jacquizz Rodgers for cheap in FA? Bottom line is the Jets already have a solid group of RB's and I'd rather address WR, OLB, etc at the top of the draft.

Because we don't have -- and have long lacked -- a true home run threat at RB. Abdullah or Johnson would give us that. It's about time this goddamn team starts drafting offense, preferably high in the draft. The thought of an Ivory-Ridley-Powell trio doesn't exactly warrant a ton of excitement.

That makes sense but if there is really good value there, after the first rd, I don't mind a RB at all. Especially a home run threat, very cheap on his first contract.
