It demonstrates the value of selling high. Especially in a sport like football where deterioration of talent is precipitous, roles are fungible, and supply is high.
This is why the Revis trade was so successful, and would have been even more so had Idzik resigned him immediately. Yet many were opposed to trading him because of some notion of pride in having the best CB in the league, or having him wear a Jets jersey in the HOF (football HOFers are not team associated).
Romantic notions like these are what gets you stuck in a rut like the Steelers are now, or the Phillies in baseball. It's a poor way to run a team, and I wish we would err on the side of foresight more often. Getting rid of Rex and his esoteric loyalties was a good start.

Love me some Nick Mangold. He was probably the safest pick in the draft and only lasted because the C position wasn't that highly regarded. We've been spoiled at the Center position since 98.

He means continuously from Mawae to Mangold. There were a few years between Fields and Mawae.

But for the sake of argument, do have to play devil's advocate: - TB won a SB with Keyshawn - The Falcons went to the playoffs more with Abraham than the Jets have with Mangold - Revis was a key component for the latest SB champ I agree with the merit behind this and similar trades, but it does suck that other teams involved (for many reasons) have benefitted more from these trades than the Jets. |

And most of those years were manned by Jim Sweeney, one of my all-time favorite Jets. We have been blessed at the center position for over three decades.....unfortunately not so much at the QB position. |
