Regardless of how long he lasted in the league picking a blocking TE in the top 10 is just about the stupidest shit you could do. He wasn't drafted to be a blocking TE. Wasn't thought of that way. Was a combination of having drafted Johnny Mitchell a couple of seasons earlier and letting Sapp go by. How he ultimately played isn't the point, teams miss on draft picks all the time, doesn't make the idea horrible. I never said he was a productive player but a 13 year career means he wasn't the all time bust some make him out to be. Guy caught 76 passes in 4 full years at penn state. Thats less than 20 a season! If they didnt draft him as a blocking TE, then that regime is even stupider for thinking that he would somehow translate into a pass catching one. I dont think him as a player is an all time bust. To pick someone like that in the top 10 is terrible though.

It wasn't that they picked Sparklepony, it's that they didn't pick Sapp. And already had used a pick before on a TE. Then again a lot of people passed on him. The usual bullshit at work again, Sparklepony had a long 13 year career, wasn't as horrible a pick the anti Jets press would have you believe. He wasn't as good as Sapp. It was a dumb pick then and it's a dumb pick now. F kyle stone hands brady.

How about a kicker in the 2nd Round? nugent is still doing pretty well as a kicker. but they shouldn't have used a second round pick. on the other hand the raiders picked ray guy in the first round and also janikowski. the patsies picked gostkowski in the third so using a fairly high pick isn't so far out of the ordinary.

Which has has nothing to do with the fucking conversation. It has everything to do w/ this conversation. Yeay, kyle Sparklepony had a long (undistinguised) career. Big whoop. The entire world and all the Jets fans knew the pick should have been Sapp. Only our dumb fuck FO didn't know. We went 1-15 that year so they were obviously incompetent boobs. You can say the same thing your saying about O'Brien over Marino (long career, wasn't THAT bad - and he wasn't). Expect that he wasn't one of the greatest QBs ever, someoen who everyone knew (again, except for our moron's in the FO) should have been the pick there. He went #1 overall in the USFL draft that year. What the hell was our IDIOT FO thinking??? And I don't care that other stupid franchises past on him either. Obviously they were incopmetent in the 80s, 90s, and last year was a total complete utter disaster in the draft. Pathetic. Now, Maccaggan has a clean slate and he seems like he knows what he's doing, but past regimes F'd up royally. Not drafting Sapp, not drafing Marino and more than a dozen other 1st round whiffs have upset me beyond belief. Sorry, but stone hands Sparklepony was a moronic, idiotic pick. And I'm glad he got booed right off the stage. I remember that big dummy saying it was the first time he ever got booed in his life. I wish the crowd would have thrown rotten tomatos at him too!

Can you read or do you just like to hear yourself talk? This has nothing to do with it because I started saying, you quoted it, that it has nothing to do with Sparklepony as much as not taking Sapp. So why are you arguing the same thing over and over again. and to be a dick and forget that Sapp was busted for weed, that it scared most off at that time is moronic. They weren't dumb fucks, they knew what he was, knew he had talent but they had concerns as most did at that time. When you say stupid shit like everyone knew that Marino would be an all time great do you realize how stupid that sounds? Everyone knew and they all passed? Every team but one? They didn't know for well publicized reasons. After the fact criticism of one team is stupid. almost as stupid as thinking Mccagnan will fuck up because a handful of guys fucked up a handful of picks before.

OK - everyone SMART knew that Marino would be an all time great. He went NUMBER 1 overall in the USFL draft. I guess they just had better scouts/GMs. Also, Rooney the father from the Steelers wanted him. His son talked him out of it. His son said that when he goes to heaven the first thing his dad will say is we should have taken MARINO. Also, Shula knew. The Dolphins were going to take O'Brien if we took Marino. The Dolphins GM told Shula "Don't worry, if the Jets take Marino we will still take a QB (obrien)". Shula said, "I don't want a FUCKING QB, I WANT MARINO!" Just shows you how stupid the Jets were then and were for many many many different regimes. Idiots forever!

And anyone keeps saying that everyone involved knew he would be, in a draft where 6 QBs were taken and 5 before Marino just is blowing shit out of their ass. Or is clueless to how far back he fell after his last season at Pitt. teams fuck up with player evaluation. Players straighten their shit out. Happens, to blame the Jets and then try and say everyone knew is dumb as dumb gets.

So if Pitt and Shula knew I guess it's too much to ask that our dumb fuck FO would know too. But I guess that's why the jets are more often than not the bottom feeding laughingstock of the nfl since forever.

Shula took the last QB available. Coming off a SB loss. WTF. Enough already, you're just whining about a topic you obviously know nothing about. And have reverted to that stupid SOJF stupidity. Stop whining about regimes, players and drafts that you didn't live through while telling us it means something today.

Marino went number fucking 1 in the usfl draft that year! Shula wanted Marino all along as I mentioned . It's a fact. Whatever I know it was a whole ago, but the jets continue to make the same dumb draft picks all the time. And their r fans like the dummy with the mustache who put their trust in the FO. I'm not gonna b fooled because more often than not the jets have been run by a bunch of incompetent boobs.
