I don't hate Simmons, but he isn't one of my favorites either. With that being said, I do love some of the writers at Grantland, ESPN better not fuck that up.

He'll be fine. Dude's a content provider and will have no issue finding work. If you like that nostalgia he puts up, I do agree that 1984 was a special special year. With Bernard King, McEnroe and a crazy good NFL...the QB grab of 1983...It felt like a special time. I give Simmons props for putting this sentiment to words. EDIT the prizefighting was outstanding - Hagler Hearns Sugar Ray Leonard ...the Rocky series really pumped up interest...the Super Saturday of the US OPEN.

People that are happy about this are missing the larger picture. Grantland and 30 for 30 are both great, and neither of them would exist without Simmons (it took him years to get management to back either project). I'm more optimistic about 30 for 30's future sans-Simmons than I am Grantland's. The writers at Grantland have been shielded from all web-traffic numbers since its inception. That group of very talented writers (most of them far better than Simmons ever was) has been free to write about almost whatever they want, however they want, and for as long as they want. They have also built the best collection of podcasts that you'll find anywhere (which no doubt was inspired by the success Simmons found with his own personal podcast). He's used his clout to safeguard what they have going on over there. If you doubt that, compare the stuff that Bill Barnwell, Robert Mays, Zach Lowe, Jonah Keri, Bryan Curtis, Brian Phillips, etc. produce for Grantland; with what you find over on the main ESPN.com site. Without Simmons to act as a buffer, I fully expect corporate interference to slowly destroy what's been built there. With luck, he'll be able to take a core group of writers and producers with him to wherever he sets up shot next.
If you ever read "Those Guys Have All the Fun," the people that have wanted Simmons gone aren't the good guys. They want more of Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith.

Okay, Mr. Charming; let me tell you, George Ohwell was one of the first International Jets Fans. It was an exciting time to be ambivalent.

Glad that fucktard got the AX.
Yeah he'll end up on another sports network but really...who the fuck watches FoxSports Network aside from UFC and NASCAR fans?
Out of sight, Out of mind.
Just disappear, Bill, you little turdburglar.
