I especially love the INSTANT slow-trot he goes into at the 22yd line. "Welp, that was fun - going to wind it down now." 49ers won that game BTW . ..

It's set as one of my user-specific smileys - you can add up to 25 of your own, including gifs. I haven't changed them out yet, it's been awhile. This one though I don't think I'll change

I see this going the other way. I feel like Krafty got in Goodell's ear, and now Goodell will fall on the sword and say the league made a mistake and will reduce the suspension and penalties greatly. Whine and complain and question the leagues integrity while in actuality diminishing it with your own words and actions...and everything will go your way! What a great precedent to set.

I said the following in another thread yesterday. This hearing will define Goodsell's legacy. If he stands up and rightfully bitch slaps the Flats**** in the face, past transgressions are pretty much forgotten and he curries favor with EVERY OTHER owner in the league. If he caves, he will always be viewed as pro-Flats**** and Kraft's errand boy. Bitch slap'em Roger, bitch slap'em!

This. I can see this as being a way for Goodell to play both sides of the ball. He'll swoop in, say Troy Vincent leveled the penalties then he'll reduce them. Appeases Kraft and Brady by reducing the penalties, appeases the other owners by keeping some of the penalties and appeases the players in general by showing that he could be "fair and neutral". When its all said and done: Brady 2 games Pats fined $250,000K Pats get all their draft picks back. imo goodell can swoop and be the white night and reduce the penalties. on the other i suspect he is looking for some serious contrition on the part of brady. if i've read the stories correctly the punishment was meted out more because brady refused to cooperate than for the actual deflating of the footballs. frankly i hope it all stands. i hope at the end of the hearing goodell tells brady he's lucky it was 2 illion and 8 games. the bottom line is the patsies cheated. and unlike the punishments handed out to ray rice and peterson there is crime involved. both ray rice and peterson had to answer to a higher authority than the nfl so even though they were dirt bags it really wasn't the nfl's place to mete out punishment, especially since both were first time offenders and really didn't require any prison time in the eyes of the law. yeah it sounds pretty stinky but goodell's job is to preserve the reputation of the nfl and cheating ranks up way higher than some fools off field behavior. and while were talking about punishments, alex karas and paul hornang were suspended for a year to making friendly bets with each other on their own teams. they weren't doing the pete rose thing. imagine if that standard applied to brady? he'd be out for a century and so would bellichicken.

NFLPA is apparently planning on calling Goodell as a witness so he won't be allowed to be the arbitrator What would Goodsell be testifying to? He wasn't there when the balls were being deflated, he didn't conduct the investigation and he didn't come up with the punishment. This is just a bullshit way of getting someone else to be the arbitrator because they're not happy Goodsell picked himself. They'd like an "independent" arbitrator so they can bribe him/her and make this go way.

It is against NFL bylaws for a team to appeal a penalty against them. They are supposed to just accept it and shut up. The fact that they are still out there talking shit means to me that Goodell will stand his ground. The penalties that were levied against them were not arbitrary. If you're saying that Spygate comes into play when figuring out punishment for the Patriots organization then you will understand why they got hit so hard.
For Spygate they got penalized:
$250,000 1st Round Pick $500,000 for BB
So there is no way, if you're saying this is their 2nd infraction, that you could ever give less of a penalty to the organization. That's why for Deflategate they were penalized:
$1,000,000 fine 1st and 4th round picks
This penalty is not arbitrary and can be defended very well if they were taken to court since the Pats had already accepted the Spygate penalty w/o any blow back and that was an obvious starting point for the league in deciding this penalty.

Goodell won't recuse himself from this since it is his right per the CBA to hear the appeals. He will tell them to kick rocks. The only reason they have put him on this list is in an attempt to have the appeal heard by someone else and that hasn't worked out well for the NFL over the last few years. Goodell is well within his right to hear the appeal and I don't think there is any way he removes himself.
