No one is saying this loss is all on Fitz, the point is he's not a playoff caliber QB or the long term answer. Can we not just move on and find a QB for the future? Who? We aren't going to be in position to draft a kid like Lynch or Goff. And I'd rather hang on to Fitz than chase some mentally fragile douchebag like Kaepernick or RG III. No way I'm giving a 37 year old Brees who has essentially looked like ass outside of the Super Dome $15 million a year. I say roll with Fitz for another season and draft another young QB in the mid-rounds to develop along with Petty. In hindsight, it's a kick in the balls that Mac couldn't pull off that deal for Cousins who is FUCKING KILLING IT right now. Yeah, keep Fitz one more year. No body to draft, finishing 10-6. And definately no on Brees. I wouldn't mind taking a shot at RG III. Can't be worse than Geno.

Jets gotta get younger, and better, on the OLine. It all starts in the trenches, no QB will do well here if they can't protect the QB and get a push to run the ball. Brick is done, and Mangold is another year older.

Just ridiculous, he's not going anywhere. What's ridiculous is valuing this guy anymore than Tennessee, Houston or the Bills did. He was only ever supposed to be the backup here. Wasn't he the intended starter on those other teams?

There is no solution for next year and beyond outside of Petty killing it in the offseason and then translating that to the field when the games actually matter. That or signing a Kaep or RG III and hope that they completely turn their careers around, which I'm sure as hell not banking on. I've seen Rivers' name brought up, but he just signed a $90 million extension before the season that includes a no trade clause. He's going nowhere. And as I said, Brees isn't the same player when playing outside of a dome. No way we're getting shit done with him outside in the elements during January. So I say stick with the guy who has commanded the respect of the locker room and just had the best statistical season a QB has ever had for this team. He's in no way the longterm solution, but he's an effective band aid. Draft a high upside prospect like Wentz or Hackenberg in the 3rd and then you have two VERY talented young QB's being developed the proper way instead of being thrown into the fire from Day 1.

I wonder how TC is going to play out with the QBs this year. I'm not saying that Fitz is going to lose out to either Petty/Smith but I think that the #2 spot could end up being a battle. With a year under his belt and a full NFL off-season I think Petty could push Geno for his spot as backup. This regime has no loyalty to Smith, the guy got rocked, and had incidents (time zone difference) showing he just doesn't get it over the years. Petty just won the award given by the equipment staff to rookie who best exemplifies being a professional, now that's not much I would guess but it at least shows how he is perceived in the building.
I think QB is going to be a big story in TC like always with the Jets but this time for the #2 spot. I think your going to see Geno understand he's playing for his career and Bryce is going to be given a chance to compete. They didn't trade up for him just to look at him they're gonna give him a chance.
I mention the battle for backup because I think backup QB is going to be a big spot next year. Fitzpatrick had a great year we all know that but he did something he always does, he got hurt. He was able to play through it and that's great but I don't think that he's going to have such luck next year. I want Fitz back because I like him but I feel that the backup is going to have to play meaningful snaps given his track record.

Maybe if we didn't have mostly losers besides Marshall and Deck we'd be in the playoffs. I'm looking at you, half of the fuckin offensive line, Kellen Davis, fuckin Cumberland, and the slew of loser NE castoff JAGs who could barely cut it cheating. But let's blame it all on Fitz!
Although that EZ pick sure is on him. But the defense fucked us in the arse. Probably to do daddy Rex a favor both times.

I enjoyed the Fitzmagic. it was great seeing offense for the first time I can ever remember. And the muhfucka now holds like all of the records for a QB this franchise has ever had. Harrier is so off base about Fitz is hysterical... And then some of yall is just being babies. What? I've said he deserves credit he's had a career year but he is what he is, not a playoff caliber QB. He's a good guy and he's played well, but you are not goin to the playoffs with this guy. Fuck his numbers and stats because he never got to the dance and he's not the long term answer, back to the drawing board. Considering he is our all time single season td leader and achieved a record better than multiple teams that are in the playoffs - he could certainly take us to the playoffs. And he should get a ton of credit from Jets fans once the sting of losing to Rex wears off. Is he the long term solution, prob not, but anything we switch to now is a mystery development project and we have B Petty training in that role now. I repeat he threw more tds this year than Vinny! And how anyone could come away from this season (where our special teams were awful, our oline was totally inconsistent, and we couldn't generate a natural pass rush) and say - our top priority is replacing the guy broke our franchise td record - is beyond me.

I officially give up on this Fitz debate. I will give him his due and credit him for what he's achieved this year, that said I will never believe we are capable of winning 11+ games and goin to the playoffs with this guy at QB, especially against a tougher schedule next year.

Feb 2019 Jets win Superbowl 50 years after Joe Willie...

Then they just have to improve everything around the QB then, like the OL, the running game and special teams. Just like 2009-10
