Sorry to be late on this, but were any of you ever kickers at any point or maybe just happen to know. Anyway, does laces out actually do anything significant other than a mental thing? I've always wondered. Can't imagine it causes a pull any thing that bad.

Saw this picture on Yahoo. Bad hold -- look at the angle the ball is at, not the laces.

That would seem to be a a lot bigger issue than the laces, unless that is normal with an angled kick. Don't know enough about kicking to know if it was intentional, but would seem to be a lot tougher to kick it straight out of that hold than if the ball is straight.

They showed other kicks, ball wasn't held at that much of an angle. I would also say that was a bad hold.

Walsh hasn't finished his plant in that image. Just before impact -- ball is still at an angle. Although the guy still needs to make the kick--not sure what impact the angle of the ball has on the kick, or if it even makes a difference.
