Reminds me of this story from a few years back: A 71-year-old former police captain is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing 43-year-old Chad Oulsen and injuring his wife over a texting dispute during a movie. NBC's Katy Tur reports. The retired Tampa police captain accused of gunning down a man texting during a Mark Wahlberg war movie will be arraigned on a second-degree murder charge Tuesday in a Florida court. Curtis Reeves Jr., 71, is charged with shooting Chad Oulson, 43, the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said Monday, after a verbal and physical confrontation. Chad Oulson was pronounced dead at a hospital, and his wife, Nichole, was treated for a gunshot wound to her hand. “To have a retired police officer — I don’t know what he was thinking at the time,” Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco told reporters. “I can tell you, anybody, over a cellphone, to take their life, it's ridiculous.” Reeves remained in Pasco County jail overnight Monday, and a judge could decide Tuesday whether to set bail. Officials are crediting an off-duty sheriff’s deputy from neighboring Sumter County for detaining Reeves at the Grove 16 Theatre in Wesley Chapel, north of Tampa. The deputy also secured the weapon, described as a .380-calber handgun, until Pasco authorities arrived, Nocco said. “He was a true hero in there. He reacted,” said Nocco, who also praised the efforts of two nurses who were in the theater and tried to save Oulson's life. Nocco said that when when the first emergency calls came in, his mind immediately turned to recent shootings at schools and movie theaters, an apparent reference to the mass killings at a theater in Aurora, Colo., in July 2012, and at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., just five months later. “Hearing what we heard, we were prepared for a large incident, but I want to reiterate this was just an isolated incident,” he said. “This situation over a cellphone use — to escalate that high, I can tell you it's very scary,” he said. “Or the fact it's a movie theater or, you know, a place such as a school, where people have a belief that they should be in a movie theater to relax or a school to learn and have it arise to this kind of level.” Nocco said the tragedy unfolded after Reeves became outraged over something trivial: “somebody texting.” Reeves and his wife were sitting behind the Oulsons as the preview trailers were rolling just before the showing of “Lone Survivor,” the Mark Wahlberg movie about a failed 2007 Navy Seal raid in Afghanistan, investigators said. Reeves asked Chad Oulson several times to stop, to no avail, Nocco said. He then left the theater to complain to the theater's management before returning to his seat, the sheriff said. Upon his return, “Chad Oulson then starts confronting him verbally, starts saying: ‘Oh, did you go in there and start complaining on me? Did you tell the staff about me?’” Nocco said. “This verbal altercation starts getting louder and louder. During this altercation, it goes from a verbal to a physical altercation,” he said. Then, “the suspect, Curtis Reeves, pulled out a gun,” Nocco said. Only one shot was fired, Nocco said. Nichole Oulson was wounded in the hand when she grabbed her husband as Reeves pulled the trigger, he said. The theater's operator, Cobb Theatres, said in a statement that it was “truly heartbroken by this incident” and that it was cooperating with investigators. Reeves retired as a captain from the Tampa Police Department in 1993, said Laura McElroy, a spokeswoman for the department, adding that Reeves helped set up the department's first SWAT team. “We are not aware of any contact with the department since his departure more than 20 years ago,” she said in a statement. Any thread where a brand new poster drops in to threaten one of the antogonists... then disappears... is gold. Funny as fuck that. That guy needs to stick around. lol You labelling me an antagonist? That's gotta be a regular posters alter ego but I hope it's not because it won't be as funny if it is. It wasn't a threat cause he hoped someone else would do it, but I felt the hatred right there. Antagonist is not nec. a negative thing, you are just one of several posters having different opinions they are defending. Personally, I stopped going to movie theatres about 25 years ago...because I know my low threshold for annoyance and discomfort. I have no tolerance for folks who have no sense of situational awareness, personal space or common courtesy and I would probably lose my shyte in the Iphone age, just as that retired Captain did. On the odd occassion I get dragged to Broadway by the wife, I really have to suck it up. The last show she bought tickets for (Stings "Last Ship")...she purposely got front row, two seats on the aisle, with me being the aisle...smart woman. The two shows before that...I had a guy ask me to move because he was unhappy with my height...(I'm not even 6 feet) and the other show someone in the first row balcony literally threw up onto the crowd below hitting everyone right up to my row..stopping the show (it made the papers here). Basically you have to know your luck and your disposition.

I probably should've put it like that, I just struggle in public places, most people just have no situational awareness or respect these days, but hey my fault for goin puttin myself in that situation. Only a thread I start could go from chipmunks to Muslims takin over the world and a woman being called an ugly cunt with two kids cryin.

I think the general consensus here or the feedback I'm gettin is that I was in the wrong, that's fine I accept that, I'm not perfect. From some reactions anybody would think I assaulted or shanked the guy, I merely voiced my displeasure at the situation, as a result someone wished a severe beatin on me, Warfish thinks I'm a bully and I've upset Ragu. So pretty much a successful thread. I'm quite a private guy usually so don't really voice my personal shit, next time gonna keep my opinions and actions to myself.

Get off your high horse fish face, you just like typing three hour long thought out replies to express how intelligent you think you are, I've seen your shit before both here and at JN. The kind of guy who likes the sound of his own voice. He was rude and uncooperative, it's not just the petulant answer he gave and the attitude he expressed it with but the general behaviour he and his family displayed upsetting other people in the vicinity from the minute they walked in. And fuck off with the PC BS, I have a right to react to any given situation how I see fit, had he shown me the same respect I showed him initially and behaved like a decent human being then there would not have been a problem. The fact he seemed to take pleasure in upsetting a child and his rude antagonistic response was the reason I decided to say something, sometimes people just need confronting when they act like a dickhead, I would expect the same reaction if I upset a child and spoke to his dad with an attitude. You never had a confrontation in your life or something. And who is bragging? It was a mild confrontation with no violence, am I probably wrong for threatening him? Yeah sure, but stop acting like people in life don't have a man to man confrontation now and again, although you are probably the type of smarmy arsed git that goes home to phone your local councillor or right a strongly worded letter. The thread was made more for the hilarity of the situation and for a debate about how cinema experiences can be difficult. There was no intimidation as he was big enough to handle himself and may have kicked my ass but as usual you can't see the funny side and have to overthink things to start goin off on another preacher educating post. Anyway Don't bother replying because I can't be bothered reading another essay of thesaurus plucked words. Kinda funny because this post it quite long. Good day sir. I hope someday, when something like this happens again, the uppity replier beats the living pulp out of you while your kids watch and cry and your wife wails for the guy to stop turning your ribs into broken bones. Then he calls your wife an ugly cunt while you're still trying to count your teeth laying in a pool of your own blood. Karma. Solid second post

Oh snap, at the movies now for Angry Birds. Haven't been in years.
Got fucking RECLINERS for seats now! Electric and shit! No way anyone in front would be in your way. Like 8 feet to the next row.
They must be losing a ton of money, only half as many seats as there used to be.

We handle our shit Mano-a-Mano this side of the water, no pussy's with a trigger. Didn't a theatre get shot up in Colorado not long back, was that over a seatin dispute? Although I used to enjoy carrying a piece. Yeah? It's also why those sharia law fucking neighborhoods and Muslims pulling their bullshit all over Europe will never happen in a 2 ammendment country like the USA. That's when the hillbillies and hicks will come out of the hills. And believe you me. They been waiting a loooooooooooooooong time for exactly that type of shit. And they are armed better then most militia groups Lmao. I wish I could like this a 1000 times over.
