After much contemplation and questioning the competence of Todd Bowles, I think I finally understand his thinking. This is the NFL, not the D league. If you want a starting job it's on you to win it either through practice or when you get a chance to play in a game. We can all agree Petty has done nothing to show he should win the competition for starting QB. This is a culture thing. Bowles is old school. While i, as a fan, would like to see Petty, I can not fault Bowles for being true to who he is. In the long run, it's better for the Jets. sounds great, then why is Fitz keeping the job?

Because Bowles is an old school guy and will defer to the vet whenever possible. Nobody here knows anything about how Petty is playing in practice. Nobody. It may be a massive difference or it may be very close but not close enough for him to supplant the veteran. Bowles may start him the rest of the year to try to win meaningless games when any other franchise would at least try to get a look at what it has with the youngsters. _

It is looking less and less likely that Luck will be the next NFL savior. I haven't paid attention but is the Colts oline as sucky as it was last year? Maybe there aren't enough rules protecting the QB in the NFL? Or maybe they're too selectively enforced, especially if you're Cam Newton?

Nice. Keep powering towards that top 5 pick. In that case, we would be better off with J Marshall playing and returning punts.
