Right, because it's no big accomplishment to figure out that the world was round (not flat as everyone else on the planet thought), decide to make the ulimate journey to try and find a new route to India by going the opposite way, dare to make a voyage where people actually thought he would fall off the edge of the earth, make it to a new continent after months on the sea, and, yes, discover an entire new world. He was a genius, adventurer, hero no matter what the liberal looney left wants us to believe. Almost nobody thought the world was flat back then. The idea for a spherical earth started in 330 BC by the Greeks. By the time Columbus was around it was well known. He just had no idea how big the earth/oceans were. The only people saying they believed the earth was flat are the dumbasses repeating what they learned in the 3rd grade. Was the cold war even in the last history book you read? He sailed off into the great unknown. Columbus was a hero and an adventurer. They still believed in sea monsters and mermaids then and actually thought the Atlantic was a sea, not an ocean. He was the man and deserves to be honored. That's what I'm saying. And to say no one thought the world was flat at the time is asinine. Most people did think that then. Magellan was another genius. Read a great book about his journey to circumnavigate the world. Even at that time they had no idea how big the pacific was. When they finally found and went thru the straight of Magellan they thought it would take a few days/ week to cross the pacific. It took 3 months. Amazing. The book is called over the edge of the world. Check it out.
