I wanted Woody to clean house and happy that he did. I think it was needed because we simply have no fucking clue what to do with the football when we have posession of it.
Now I also believe Rex is the ultimate DC, so no I do not want another Head Coach coming from the defense if what he'll offer at best is what Rex has offered. If we're hiring another DC to be a head coach firing Rex was a mistake. I think its as simple as that. We need someone that can help a QB grow and be effective. Unfortunately that wasn't Rex and I'm betting it won't be the next DC we'll hire either.
I knew it was a longshot but was hoping for the Harbough. But I know I don't want another DC if it means we have no clue what to do with the ball when we get it. Hell I'd even take Mike Shanahan over any of the DC's out there.

"B-BUT DEFENSIVE-MINDED COACH, DOE! MIGHT AS WELL HAVE KEPT REX, DOE!"
Being defensive-minded isn't the issue. Not being competent enough to understand and handle more than ONE phase of the game is the issue.
The problem was NEVER about Rex having a defensive mentality, it was that he was utterly clueless when it came to NFL offenses that weren't a staple in the days of leather helmets. It was that he could only keep up with a single aspect of the game/team and would ROUTINELY make mistakes when he tried to handle anything but the defense. Now, you might be thinking, "BUT, THEN WE SHOULD HAVE KEPT DA REX AND LET DA OC TAKE CARE OF THE OFFENSE WHILE DA REX FOCUSES ON JUST DA DEFENSE!". Yeah, that would have been perfectly fine......if Rex were our DC - NOT our HC. If Rex wanted to just be a DC, I would have welcomed him staying. However, as a HC? Nope. He isn't currently capable of handling anything other than his defense. And, that's fine. But, he shouldn't be a HC if that's how things have to be structured for him. Get me a guy who has his finger on the pulse of every single aspect of the team and doesn't botch it when he has to pay attention to something else other than his specialty.

Yeah, being defensive minded wasn't the issue. It was complete lack of attention on the Offensive side and treating the Offense as a secondary unit of the team. Don't work with the new rules anymore. We never even try to take advantage of the PI shit... Half the time you don't even have to throw a good pass or catch the ball. As it turns out, close DOES count in NFL now! Half of NE yards are on non-catch, horrible pass, PI and Holding calls.
