if they had Rex still on staff and waited for a GM to decide if he was canned, you and everyone else on this board would go ape shit but now going to interview a coach with out the new GM in place is ok There was less than a 10% chance that the new GM was going to keep Rex. And if anything, you and the rest of the Rex supporters should applaud Woody for cutting Rex loose quickly. Maybe he has a legitimate shot at the ATL job now, instead of keeping him dangling for the next two weeks or so until we find a new GM. i like Rex, think he is a good coach and will hitch on somewhere but that being said I did not want him back next year his time has passed. i just think it's comical how much people bitch about everything, this board is at least readable. There is another one I frequent that is a giant tampon meeting

@damienwoody: Gotta say….love Dan Quinn as a candidate. Was in NY as DL coach when I was w/ the team and the man is as bright as they come

I like Rex as well and think that he's a decent coach, but like I've said before, he needs to be in the right situation to succeed.
And heading a rebuilding team with no proven, viable QB on the roster in not that situation.
If he lands the HC gig in Atlanta, then I wish him all the best. But there's no question that it was time for us to mutually part ways.
The supporters can sit there and place the brunt of the blame on Tanny and Idzik until their blue in the face, the bottom line is that Rex was the HC of a team that has missed the playoffs 4 years in a row and has been in a steady downwards spiral throughout that period.
I'd hire Rex as my DC any day of the damn week, but you can't be totally inept with the game management side of the game and totally neglect the offensive side of the ball and maintain a steady level of success in this league. Especially in this day and age.
With Superbowl winning GM's like Wolf and Casserly on board, I'm at least optimistic that we'll be able to land a competent tag team to run this bitch for the foreseeable future.

Interesting and encouraging to hear an endorsement like that from a player he he wasn't directly connected to. Quinn and Bowels are the two defensive guys that I would welcome with open arms. I think a lot of people are being way too narrow minded when it comes to defensive candidates. Not every defensive coach wants to run an offense straight out of the stone age.

You interview the guy now, while he's available. He'll probably be off limits for the next month. Get a good idea of the guy either for the good or the bad. In the meantime, if you find a GM, that GM can always go interview him later.

shouldnt the GM be present for a coaching interview? Maybe the Jets will record the interview for the GM and play it for him later? Seems like pretty normal, Jet-like approach to a hiring.

Not every defensive coach wants to run an offense straight out of the stone age. Me too. I've long been pointing towards both from a leadership standpoint and turning the culture around and being a bit more authoritative and instilling accountability. I just like the idea of a guy like Gase overseeing our QB situation and offense which has been neglected far too long. I would trust someone else in charge as you do to better manage the offense and not pit the two against each other and mention the defense 37 times a week while never mentioning the offense in 6 years.

I know it's Manish, but it's news. The New York Daily News' Manish Mehta reports the Jets will interview Seahawks DC Dan Quinn for their head-coaching vacancy on Saturday. Owner Woody Johnson and consultants Ron Wolf and Charley Casserly will fly to Seattle to do the interview. With the Seahawks still in the playoffs, Quinn can do interviews through next weekend, but won't be allowed to do so again until Seattle is eliminated. Quinn may be the gem of this year's coordinator-to-head coach class. He's been running Seattle's defense the past two years. how could they interview a coach with out a GM in place Window's open; I'm sure Ron WOlf will get a welcome from Quinn. S/B good. Could be good. oh gawd
