It is true. Controlled burns are the way to go to prevent more of these massive spreading fires. The campsite fire was consuming 1000 homes and 23.3 square miles of earth a day for the first 10 days. Most could have been avoided.

forest management is vital to avoiding the kind of tragic fires california is facing. when the govt cooperates with the logging industry, it's possible (maine is a great example; i spent a couple years up there in the forestry firefighting service in my late teens and the fires they did get were typically contained by man-made firebreaks). california's anti-logging lunacy combined with their myopic environmental policies are directly to blame for the SCOPE AND SCALE of the fires
