draftanalyst.com/combine-report-32-free-agency-rumors-more"Don’t kill the messenger, but top brass of the New York Jets privately admitted today they don’t expect to put a winning product on the field for at least two years. And while this may be obvious to most, it is a startling admission from a team struggling to fill its new stadium with fans. The current situation has little to do with general manager Mike Maccagnan. For years former general manager Mike Tannenbaum traded away early draft capital and multiple picks at a time for aged veterans such as receivers Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards. Tannenbaum did much the same in order to move up in the draft and select quarterback Mark Sanchez as well as running back Shonn Greene. The plan almost worked, as the team assembled by Tannenbaum and coached by Rex Ryan went to successive AFC title games. The Tannenbaum era was followed by two disastrous drafts from his replacement John Idzik Jr. in which little was gained, despite a year when the franchise had multiple first-round picks followed by a draft which featured 12 selections."

Tony is as credible as anyone on the net but would the front office really be telling anyone this? Gonna take this one with a big grain of salt.

Good
Commit to a legit rebuild and stop dicking around and treading water.
I'd rather suck tremendous dick for 2-3 years and potentially be set up for a decade of success over continuing to make slap dash decisions to keep us in 8-8/9-7 territory with no real hope in sight.

I'll take it with a grain of salt as well, but if true, that's good the Brain trust is onboard with a complete rebuild...we need one in the worst way, and NY teams outside of the Mets are usually unwilling to rebuild from the bottom up...leading to a never ending cycle of purgatory... Also if true, I hate to burst some people's bubble....but don't expect Bowles to be fired after next season even if we have a 2-14, 3-13 season.

It almost seems to me that Woody told Mac and Bowles to try and win now in the first 2 years and then gave them security to break it down and start over if it didnt work. Weird, but I dont know how else to explain it.

If that's true then the best option is to go into the year with Bryce Petty as the starter.

If Tony is right, I think we are going to be a lot less active in free agency than many of us expected.

Two years if we hit on our picks. It will probably be 3-5 more years of top 10 picks. These idiots couldn't fuck their way out of a paper bag.

TBH they probably realized they would need 2 years to even see the sorry ass state of the roster and what bastards were gonna be a problem with someone who (supposedly) has discipline. Unlike Rex and his clown show of overhyped and overpaid losers.

Weird, but I dont know how else to explain it. I don't think that makes any sense. I think Mac didn't expect to compete their first year. He wanted to give Geno some weapons so he could evaluate him. The worst thing that could have happened to us was Fitz winning the job and having a career year. It gave fans unrealistic expectations and forced Mac to resign Fitz and trade for over the hill players like Forte. If Geno never got punched we would have been mediocre or bad enough to draft Goff or Wentz.
