I'll go a step further. Woody wants to be judged on progress during the year. That should go for his Head Coach as well. Macc still has a lot to prove but Bowles has even more. As a defensive coach his defense sucked in 2016 and he had locker room issues, a lack of leadership, and guys who think it's okay to show up late to meetings. Bowles needs to make progress otherwise I'd support a scenario where we give Macc some more time but we let Bowles go. The Jets would likely have a high draft pick and could entice a new HC by letting him pick his QB of the future. Just my two cents. I agree with you. Being patient should not mean that Macc and Bowles receive a free pass. I know I mentioned this in another thread, but Bowles should be evaluated based on the growth and development of the young players. As for Macc, I think he needs to be evaluated by the construction of the roster. He has found some nice talent on the back end of the roster with late round picks and UDFA. Are some of theses guys ready to step up and fill the some of the holes that still exist as we head into year 3 of his tenure. Will two competent tackles emerge from Qvlae/Ijalana/Beachum/Shell? Is Wesley Johnson a legitimate starting C? Do we have a good young group of WRs that can help a QB develop with the absence of a true veteran WR1? Can Deon Simon step in and anchor the DL? Will Mauldin, Pace &/or Lee become the core of an above average LB group? Will Petty or Hack prove to be a capable NFL starting QB? Is Mo Claiborne, Juston Burris or Marcus Williams capable of being a CB1? If the answer to all of these questions is no, and we head into 2018 with the same holes we have now -- at the most important positions in the game: Edge, WR1, RB1, QB, CB & LT -- then I really would rather see someone else oversee what is left of the rebuild.

Great. You buy that bullshit I dont. They arent even going to pretend to try anymore. Sounds Great. Translation keep buying tickets the next few years while I plan on selling this team Disagree. I think what he's saying is you'll see them trying but you may not see that result in wins. You may see progress and improvement and competitiveness but a young team may not be able to convert that into wins immediately. I've grown impatient as well, ragu, but I've also seen the previous big spending, big names, throw out Tebow on the field to sell tickets approach.....and it doesn't work. I'm willing to see this play out in 2017 and 2018. What I want to see it... 1. Effort - To the end, on every play, in every game no matter what the record is. 2. Competence - Fewer penalties, smart decisions, guys knowing the playbook and no mental errors. 3. Leadership and Compliance - Guys who aren't late to meetings, guys who don't shoot off their mouths and diss teammates after a loss. 4. A team that's better at the end of the year than the beginning It's like Stokes trying to dunk a basketball or southside trying to get laid. The effort and focus may be there....it just ain't gonna happen right now. Here's to 2019! I completely agree, and even if it is a total disaster of a season leading to Bowles getting fired, and even Mac too, if this season leads to the Jets getting the #1 pick in the 2018 Draft, it will all have been worth it. The last time the Jets had the first overall pick - 1996 -- No QB was even taken in the first round. The QB's drafted that year: Tony Banks 2d round Bobby Hoying 3d round Jeff Lewis and Danny Kannell 4th round Spencer Fischer and Mike Cawley 6th round Jon Stark and Kyle Wacholtz 7th round WTF!!! Really!? First pick in the whole goddamned draft and those are the QB's to choose from!? The fates owe the Jets the first pick in a 2018 draft with multiple franchise QB's to choose from. We've earned this.

If the answer to all of these questions is no, and we head into 2018 with the same holes we have now -- at the most important positions in the game: Edge, WR1, RB1, QB, CB & LT -- then I really would rather see someone else oversee what is left of the rebuild. Bingo. Exactly the questions that I have and what I want to see. You can't fix everything in a Draft or two. But, after a LOT of investment in WRs (tons of bodies brought in over the last 18 months) the Jets have to have the semblance of a competent depth chart at that position. Same thing at LB. Harris is hanging on by a thread but Lee, Jenkins and Mauldin as well as a couple UDFAs and CFL kinda guys have been brought here. Need that group to be at least average in 2017 and show that its trajectory is up. At OT you are spot on, we know all of those guys can play to some degree....the real question that should already be answered in Macc's mind is, which two are my starters? The Jets need to determine what their identity is and what they want it to be. This applies to each side of the ball. When you think of the Patriots you think of Tom Brady. When you think of the Cowboys you think of Elliott and an emerging young QB. The Vikings used to be Adrian Peterson. The Colts of the past 20 years have always been thought of as a passing team. What's the Jets identity? What's their strength on offense and who is their "go to" player? Is there anyone on the Jet O who scares opposing defenses? On defense I see the Jets needing to look at their 3 levels differently. The D Line has to lead and be the strength of the team. Leo and Mo will have to be very consistent and reliable, anchoring a defense that is in a state of transition. The LB corps has to be confident and simply take another step in maturity with a few 2nd and 3rd year guys. The Secondary may be where the Jets have to be a little patient. They'll have 3 projected new starters (two rookies + Claiborne) and Burris will hopefully take a step but it could be a little ugly in the first half of 2017. All this is to say that these different units and position groups need to look like there's a plan. These guys need to show promise and it has to appear that the bets Macc has placed on major areas like WR, Secondary, and LB the past two years will pay off. Those and maybe OLine are what I'm going to look at when I evaluate Macc because he's put a lot of Draft picks and effort into rebuilding those groups. Those are HIS guys.

This is going to be a fucking GREAT season.
No expectations, no pressure, no gut wrenching losses.
Just relax and watch the youngsters hopefull get better without really challenging to win any games.
It's like going to a preseason game in the summer, nice dinner in Rutherford, nice atmosphere, watch the rookies, don't get too worked up.
Going to be a thoroughly enjoyable season.

It feels odd but I can't wait.

Music to my ears. Woody finally gets it.
This is how the Raiders did it, RM gutted the roster when he arrived and cut D Moore, Heywood-bey, Seymour and Routt etc.
They had a few 4 win seasons and now they are contenders, difference is RM has drafted well and found a QB, we can only hope Macc can do the same.

This! If any team knows how to lose after teasing victory its the Jets. But the Jets are also the kings of winning meaningless games at the end of shitty seasons causing them to drop in the draft.

As a season ticket holder, I'm fine with this, for the same reasons that many of you stated. One other thing to look forward to in 2018 is, ironically enough, free agency. Currently, the Jets will have about 67 million in cap space. With a couple of no brainer cuts, that number quickly gets up to 80 million. overthecap.com/calculator/new-york-jets
