This seems a bit misleading. They're saying she's hired as a coach, but she's really an intern and only for the preseason/summer.
Aren't interns people who are learning the job? Not someone you would hire for a staff position. I thought the reason to be an intern is that you don't have the experience to be on staff and that you're not really given a lot of responsibility but are there to help the full-time staff and get exposure to a particular type of job. I don't think an intern would have a big impact on the team. (Of course, the Jets can use all the help they can find.)
Maybe if she shows any talent, the Jets will hire her for a full-time position during the season.

You people are just gratuitously mean sometimes. My hat is off to Collette Smith. If she didn't know what she was doing, there is no way the players on an NFL team would accept her. and she was a baller who cleans up nice

I wouldn't go to a game, but it reminds of Women's College Basketball where scheme and execution is king (or queen) since no one has ridiculous raw athletic skill.

So, she seems to be a very intelligent, well spoken, football knowledgeable, and likable person who is achieving her dreams through dedication, hard work, and perseverance. What is there not to like about Collette Smith?

So, she seems to be a very intelligent, well spoken, football knowledgeable, and likable person who is achieving her dreams through dedication, hard work, and perseverance. What is there not to like about Collette Smith? This. In all likelihood she has to actually be better than a male in a similar position. The last thing the Jets players want to see/hear/think is that they got a lesser coach simply so they could hire a woman. I think she'll bring it....and the Jets will be better off for it.
